By applying Eu3+/Tb3+-doped phosphate glass as photovoltaic (PV) precursors, the performance of conventional amorphous-silicon and multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si) PV solar cells was improved. Rare-earth glass absorbs light at ultraviolet bands and subsequently emit light at visible bands. The shorter wavelength of the solar radiation is downshifted to longer wavelengths. Hence, the photon-to-current efficiencies (PCE) of a/mc-Si cells are higher, because the emitted photon matches with a higher spectral sensitivity region of a/mc-Si cells. For a phosphate glass, Eu3+/Tb3+ placed on top of an actual a/mc-Si cell experiments and simulations both showed maximum relative increases of 3.57% and 6.26% in PCE. The real PCE enhancement can be proved, thus the potential prospects of Eu3+/Tb3+-doped phosphate glass on the PCE of PV modules can be looking forward in the near future.

It is reported that the efficient and compact yellow green laser at 561 nm generated by intracavity frequency doubling of a continuous wave (CW) laser operation of a diode pumped Nd:YAG laser on the 4F3/2 → 4F13/2 transition operated at 1123 nm. An LBO crystal, cut for critical type I phase matching at room temperature is used for second harmonic generation of the laser. With dual end pump configurations at total incident pump power of 40 W, as high as 10.8 W of CW output power at 561 nm is achieved with 20 mm long LBO. The optical-to-optical conversion efficiency is up to 27%, and the power stability in 8 h is better than 2.56%.

We demonstrate an efficient and compact ultraviolet laser at 360 nm generated by intracavity frequency doubling of a continuous wave (CW) laser diode-pumped Pr3+:YLiF4 laser at 721 nm. A lithium triborate crystal, cut for critical type I phase matching at room temperature, is used for second-harmonic generation of the fundamental laser. By using an InGaN laser diode emitting at 444.3 nm with a maximum incident power of 5 W, as high as 460 mW of CW output power at 360 nm is achieved. The optical-to-optical conversion efficiency is as high as 9.2%, and the output power stability in 4 h is better than 3.86%. To the best of our knowledge, this is high efficient UV laser generated by frequency doubling of an InGaN diode-pumped Pr3+:YLiF4 laser.

A laser diode side pump all-solid-state pulse laser at 589 nm with high power and high conversion efficiency and small volume is demonstrated by intracavity sum frequency generation. By optimizing the cavity and adopting etalon techniques, a quasi continuous wave at 589 nm laser source, which has a maximum output power of 11.4 W, a repetition rate of 5 kHz, and a pulse width of 135 ns, is developed. The optical to optical conversion efficiency is up to 6.5% and the power stability is better than 2% in 8 hours.
