There is a long history of creating digital libraries of legal materials in general and of international legal materials in particular. This article highlights the history of several noteworthy examples of earlier digital libraries. It then describes the creation of the Cape Town Convention Academic Project digital library. Finally, the article applies lessons learned from the histories of the earlier libraries to analyse issues the Cape Town Convention library may face in the future.

Legal bibliographies are among the most useful tools of the law librarian. As with any tool, however, these materials must be discovered and their importance recognized before they can be used successfully. How does the beginning law librarian learn about major bibliographic titles: in the classroom, on the job, by happenstance? One would anticipate that the University of Washington, which offers one of the nations leading orograms for the training of law librarians, would provide training in these materials. The aurhor reviews her own ex~eriencesw ith legal bibliographies as a student in the program, as the director of the program and as a library employee.
