The adsorption of bovine serum albumin and the subsequent reaction with it of rabbit anti-bovine serum albumin at a saline solution/gold interface are observed in vitro by ellipsometry. By suitable choice of protein concentrations, the processes of adsorption and immunological reaction can be followed in detail by an ordinary null ellipsometer. A simple kinetic model for the formation of a monolayer of protein at the saline solution/gold interface provides adequate explanation for the experimental results. It is shown that ellipsometry is capable of providing information on molecular dimensions, molecular diffusion velocities and adsorption rates.

Summary C-AMP is low concentrations (10-7 to 10-8 M) increases, and C-AMP in high concentrations (10-2 M) suppresses tritiated thymidine uptake of normal lymphocytes in tissue culture. GMP (10-8 M) increases but AMP and CMP do not significantly affect the tritiated thymidine uptake of normal human lymphocytes in tissue culture. C-AMP (10-7 M) increases the tritiated thymidine uptake of PPD-stimulated human lymphocytes in tissue culture.

The effect of cyclic AMP on the immunologic system has been widely explored, especially in the context of its effect on the lymphocyte itself, the fundamental cell of immunologic function in man. That cyclic AMP is involved in the response of the lymphocyte to challenges such as mitogens, antigens, and hormones has received considerable experimental support. (2,4–7). Many questions remain, including very fundamental ones; i. e., how the lymphocyte works, what goes wrong in lymphocytes of those developing proliferative disorders, and why doesn’t the lymphocyte respond when the malignant challenge appears from outside the immunologie system?
