Effects of repeated phosphorus fertilisation on field crops in Finland. 2: Sufficient phosphorus application rates on silty and sandy soils

Sisamaassa yleisista hiesuisista ja karkeista maista kasvitsaavat fosforia vahemman kuin etela- ja lansirannikon savi- ja hiuemaista. Hiesu- ja hietamaiden fosforilannoituksen tarvetta tutkittiin kymmenella 9-18-vuotisella kenttakokeella, joissa verrattiin viiden vuosittain annetun fosforimaaran vaikutuksia kaikkiaan 131 koesadon perusteella. Useimmissa kokeissa viljeltiin viljaa, joissakin nurmea ja yhdessa kokeessa perunaa. Tutkittaessa lannoituksen vaikutusta suhteessa asetaattimenetelmalla maaritettyyn maan P-lukuun kaytettiin lisaksi aikaisempien tutkimusten tuloksia kahdeksaltatoista koepaikalta. Fosforilannoitus lisasi satoa kaikilla niilla mailla, joiden P-luku oli alhainen tai keskinkertainen, ja perunan satoa myos melko runsasfosforisilla mailla. Ilman fosforilannoitusta saatu suhteellinen sato prosentteina riittavalla fosforilannoituksella saadusta sadosta oli kymmenessa kokeessa keskimaarin 81 % (vastaava maan P-luku 11,6 mg/dm3) vaihdellen 55 %:sta maan P-luvulla 4,7 mg/dm3 100 %:iin P-luvulla 35,2 mg/dm3. Nykyisilla hintasuhteilla pitkana aikana optimaaliseksi arvioidun 97 %:n suhteellisen sadon perusteella koekauden lopussa tarvittiin fosforia keskimaarin 25 kg/ha (vaihtelu 0-42 kg/ha). Kuudella niukka- ja keskifosforisella maalla (P-luku 4,5-9,1 mg/dm3, keskimaarin 8,0 mg/dm3) tarvittiin fosforia 35 kg/ha (vaihtelu 20-42 kg/ha), kun taas 10 kg/ha P (vaihtelu 0-25 kg/ha) riitti neljalla runsasfosforisemmalla maalla (P-luku keskimaarin 20,8 mg/dm3, vaihtelu 13,0-35,2 mg/dm3). Niukkafosforisilla mailla fosforin tarve oli jonkin verran suurempi kuin nykyisten ymparistotuen ehtojen mukaan voidaan kayttaa. Happamien hiesu- ja hietamaiden suurta fosforilannoituksen tarvetta voidaan vahentaa kalkituksella. Vahvasti happamilla mailla fosforivarojen hyodyntamisen tehostuminen johtuu paljolti paremmasta juurten kasvusta ja ravinteiden otosta maan P-luvun ollessa sama. Lievasti happamien karkeiden maiden fosforilannoituksen tarve ei valttamatta pienene kalkituksella lainkaan kemiallisesti arvioituun lannoitustarpeeseen verrattuna, koska pH:n noustessa myos maan P-luku suurenee.

Comparison of part-time grazing and indoor silage feeding on milk production

Cows were assigned randomly to indoor silage feeding (with 2 h outdoor exercise) or part-time grazing treatment in two different experiments. One group was kept in confinement with ad libitum grass silage within each experiment. The other group had ad libitum grass silage indoors and they were put out on grass pasture during part of the 24 hour period, 12 hours (night, Experiment 1) and 6 hours (day, Experiment 2) in June, July and August. In Experiment 2, the concentrate (9 kg d-1) was given at two crude protein levels: high crude protein [185 g kg-1 dry matter (DM)] and low crude protein (135 g kg-1 DM). In Experiment 1, night-time grazing increased total DM intake and milk (3.9 kg d-1) production. There was interaction between month and forage feeding strategy, the difference in milk yield being smallest between treatments in June. In Experiment 2, day-time grazing had no significant main effect on milk production but there was significant interaction between month and forage feeding strategy showing 2.5 kg d-1 difference between treatments in July. High-protein concentrate tended to increase the milk yield more on the silage diet compared with the group grazing during daytime. .The differences in milk yield between the forage feeding treatments were mainly due to the higher dry matter intake and higher metabolizable energy content of the pasture grass compared with silage. The lower milk responses to concentrate crude protein in the cows grazing during daytime compared with the silage group indicate a high protein value of pasture grass. It is concluded that part-time grazing increases the milk yield and decreases the need for supplementary concentrate protein.
