Desulphurization of coal from Northern Bohemian brown coal basin by bacterial leaching

Peter Fečko; Helena Raclavská; Vratislav Malysiak

Desulphurization of coal by bacterial leaching is very effective. Desulphurization by bacteria Thiobacillus ferrooxidans was applied to three brown coal samples with different mineralogical and petrographical composition from three open pit mines in the Northern Bohemian brown coal basin, Czechoslovakia. From the results obtained it is apparent that the success of bacterial leaching depends on the grain size of pyrite and on its relationship to coal matter and ash, on the ratio of pyrite to marcasite and further on the adaptibility of the bacteria culture.

Application of pyrolysis residue from waste materials in black coal flotation The paper deals with the verification of the floatability of pyrolytic oils, which were obtained through the pyrolysis of waste, namely mixed plastics, tyres and waste rubber in combination with black coal from Lazy Mine, and classical collector Montanol 551 in black coal flotation. Black coal from ČSA OKD, a.s. coal preparation plant was used for flotation tests. The results imply that it is possible to produce collectors from waste materials which may be applied in the flotation of black coal. Next, the paper focused on the identification of a suitable combination of pyrolytic oils and Montanol 551 in order to reach ash content in the concentrate below 10%.

Fuzzy comprehensive evaluation of land reclamation suitability in mining subsidence based on GIS

Linxia Guo; Liping Zhou; Chunhua Yang; Peter Fečko

In order to make full use of mining subsidence areas, a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method on the land reclamation suitability is used. According to the three directions of land reclamation of agriculture, forestry and pond, we choose proper evaluation elements and weights, and then obtain the structure of land reclamation suitability of this coal mining subsidence as a result which provides a basis for reclaiming the subsidence area appropriately. Combined with GIS, a land suitability evaluation result map of this coal mining subsidence is drawn.

Abstract The paper deals with an application of bacterial leaching on two selected samples from old ecological loads situated in the Karlovy Vary Region. To be specific, they are heaps in Prebuz and Kraslice. Bacterial leaching was applied making use of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans bacteria and lasted 28 days. The results imply that the given method is suitable for the retrieval of valuable metals from waste and may help to deal with the issue of old heaps and dumps.

Application of flotation in the decontamination of sediments from the Cerny prikop stream

Peter Fečko; Iva Janáková; Helena Raclavská; Barbara Tora

Application of flotation in the decontamination of sediments from the Cerny prikop stream The stream Cerny prikop is located in the Ostrava city districts of Marianske Hory, Moravska Ostrava and Privoz. This locality belongs to the most polluted areas in Ostrava as it is unbearably polluted by the Coking Plant of Jan Sverma, company BorsodChem MCHZ (the chemical plant), City Waste Water Treatment Plant and a number of other companies in the given territory, all the way to its mouth to the Odra River. Moreover, the area is also affected by the construction of the D 47 motorway. The sediments of Cerny prikop represent a significant ecological burden within the Ostrava urban area. They are contaminated by a wide range of organic pollutants which have never been exactly identified.
