Abstract This article discusses the following aspects of documentation and publishing by international governmental organizations (IGOs): the volume of IGO documents and publications and recent efforts to curb production; characteristics of distribution of the document and publication output; some recent trends bearing on collection development, such as external publishing and copublishing, increasing use of microform, the emergence of new IGOs and of new forms of international organization; and the nature and types of sources of information about IGO material. Discussion is illustrated by references to the publishing/documentation pattern of organizations in the UN system as well as other IGOs, e.g., the OECD and the European Communities. The appendix comprises a select bibliography of sources of information about IGO documents and publications.
