Hocharchaische Opfervorschrift für das Kronos-Fest in Olympia (BrU 7)

Auf dem Bruchstuck eines Bronzekessels steht eine Bustrophedon-Inschrift im elischen Dialekt aus der Mitte des 6. Jh. v. Chr. Genannt ist eine Regelung („wratra“ = Rhetra) des Kronos-Festes („Kronika“), dass ein Kultbeamter (der „Theokolos“) in den funf Tagen des Festes das Opfer auszufuhren hat, auser wenn die „Olympiade“ stattfindet. Kronos hatte in Olympia einen Altar in der Altis und einen auf der Spitze des nach ihm genannten Kronos-Hugels. Vermutlich gab es in archaischer Zeit ein jahrliches funftagiges Fest fur Kronos, das alle vier Jahre im Zusammenhang mit dem ebenfalls funftagigen Fest der Olympien fur Zeus, den Sohn des Kronos, stattfand. The fragment of a bronze cauldron shows a bustrophedon inscription in Elean dialect to be dated to the middle of the 6. cent. B.C. Its text is a regulation („wratra“ = rhetra) of the festival of Kronos („Kronika“): a cult official (the „theokolos“) has to sacrifice in the five days of the festival, except in time of the „Olympiad“. At Olympia Kronos had an altar in the Altis, another one at the top of the hill of Kronos, named after this cult place. In archaic times there was presumably an annual five-day festival for Kronos, which every four years was celebrated together with the five-day Olympic festival for Kronos’s son Zeus.
