Economical loss due to non-compliance with requirements for personnel safety and health in Lithuanian construction sector

Abstract Research on Economic Losses (consequences) due to Failure to Ensure Occupational Safety and Health Requirements in the Construction Sector was conducted by the order of the Ministry of Social Security and Labour (contract No. 2594-AP). The conducted scientific analysis shows the state of occupational safety and health at work in the construction sector, estimates economic consequences for accidents at work, indicates the economic benefits of investment for occupational safety and health and presents the results of research, findings and recommendations. This would allow to reduce occupational diseases and the number of accidents at work and herewith to avoid economic consequences for state and construction enterprises.

INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFICIENCY OF LABOUR SAFETY MEANS BY STATISTICAL GAMES

Abstract Statistical data regarding causes and number of accidents in enterprises and organisations allow to foresee the average number of traumas for a definite period when no additional means for trauma prevention have been provided. The trauma prevention means differ because they require different financing and decreasing the number of traumas. The suggested mathematical methods give the possibility to appraise the means of trauma prevention according to the definite sum invested. Some accidents are related to individual miss-steps/mistakes at work. Trying to find out the ways for optimal trauma prevention we can take the latter causes as statistical game of “nature” state and certain possible situations of existing in determination. They are impossible to be changed, though some preventive means applied by employees may decrease the trauma cases caused by individual safe control violation. Economical and social consequences of accidents at work and occupational diseases

Summary The main purpose of this scientific research is to estimate social and economical consequences of accidents at work and occupational diseases and prepare recommendations to avoid negative economical and social consequences. To achieve this purpose the methods of selection, poll, statistical analytical and mathematical modeling methods were used. The analysis of present workers health was accomplished and safety conditions in separate economic areas were estimated. Manufacturing, building, agricultural economy and transport companies were studied more detailed. Professional safety and health strategies for the years 2004–2006

Summary The purpose of this work is to set down strategic directions of safety and health for the years 2004–2006. • To achieve the objective European Communities Professional safety and health strategies for 2002–2006 were estimated, employees present state of health and safety analysis was done, professional health and safety scientific researches results were used. In this work the methods of selection, poll, statistic‐analysis, mathematical modulation were used. The main result of the research is professional health and safety strategic directions for the years 2004–2006: • creating of good physical conditions at work places (increasing work welfare); • consolidating and improving of preventive culture; • modelling and implementing of professional health and safety at work policy that is a component of social policy.
