Use of the Reviscometer® for measuring cosmetics‐induced skin surface effects

Marc Paye; S. Mac-Mary; A. Elkhyat; C. Tarrit; P. Mermet; Philippe Humbert

Background/purpose: The Reviscometer® RVM600 that measures resonance running time (RRT) has been shown to be inversely related to the skin stiffness. However, very few publications describe the use of this instrument for testing the effect of cosmetic products.

Biological processes in solar lentigo: insights brought by experimental models

Ranesha Goorochurn; Cécline Viennet; Corinne Granger; Ferial Fanian; Nadine Varin-Blank; Christine Le Roy; Philippe Humbert

Common in ageing patient, the solar lentigo is a macular hyperpigmented skin lesion that results from chronic exposure to ultraviolet irradiations. Despite sharing numerous features with other pigmented spots, the diagnostic of this benign lesion is well characterized at the tissue level. Recent studies shed lights on several factors and their pathogenic mechanisms involved in the development of the solar lentigo. This review summarizes how diverse experimental approaches allowed the identification of several biomarkers, which contribute to a better understanding on the initiation and the maintenance of this pigmentary disorder.

Bateman purpura (dermatoporosis): a localized scurvy treated by topical vitamin C – double-blind randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial

Philippe Humbert; Ferial Fanian; T. Lihoreau; Adeline Jeudy; Piérard Ge

Bateman purpura is characterized by diffuse senile skin atrophy, senile purpura and spontaneous stellar pseudocicatrices. Cutaneous changes in the course of ageing have been related to lower levels of ascorbic acid into the dermis of elderly people.

Influence of skin extension upon the epidermal morphometry, an in vivo study

Jean-Luc Leveque; Ferial Fanian; Philippe Humbert

The Dermal–Epidermal Junction (DEJ) is characterized by undulations whose apices are called papillae. With aging, epidermis becomes thinner, together with a flattening of the DEJ, leading to a decreased density of papillae. The causes of these modifications are likely as multiple as uncertain. The present paper deals with in vivo morphometric characterization of the DEJ and its changes following a skin surface deformation.

Exploratory study of the typology of various grades of mature skin

Jean-Marie Sainthillier; Sophie Mac-Mary; Delphine Monnier; Perrine Mermet; Cécile Tarrit; Carine Mudry; Philippe Humbert

Post‐menopausal skin aging has intrinsic as well as extrinsic origins, and this process induces important disparities of appearance and feeling within an age range.

Assessment of the efficacy of a new complex antisensitive skin cream

Yinjuan Wang; Céline Viennet; Adeline Jeudy; Ferial Fanian; Li He; Philippe Humbert

Sensitive skin is frequently complaint in dermatology consultation with cutaneous manifestations such as stinging, redness, dryness, and burning sensation that affect the quality of life. Its pathogenesis is mainly related to dysfunction of neurosensory, skin barrier, and also immune activity. The treatment is generally based on continuous and topical therapy by nonirritating complex.

Differential morphological and functional features of fibroblasts explanted from Solar Lentigo

Upon ageing, chronic exposure to ultraviolet radiations and pollution induces benign hyper-pigmented lesions, such as Solar Lentigo maculae (SL) 1. Well-defined histologically, SL is distinguishable from other hyper-pigmented diseases and can be classified relative to its evolution 2-4. Differential gene-profiling analyses comparing SL and normal skin biopsies revealed that SL tissues are mainly composed of epidermal activated melanocytes as well as hypo-proliferating and hypo-differentiated keratinocytes with a background of chronic inflammation. In absence of fibroblast markers, immuno-staining analyses for several growth factors and secreted proteins in the upper dermis of SL biopsies strongly suggest that dermal fibroblasts contribute functionally to dysregulation of epidermal cells 5. These observations are strengthened by recent studies using a pigmented reconstructed skin model that demonstrates the influence of dermal fibroblasts on skin pigmentation 6. However, data on the morphological and functional features of the SL primary fibroblasts that could explain their role in SL disease are not available. This article is protected by copyright. Evaluation of lifting and antiwrinkle effects of calcium hydroxylapatite filler. In vitro quantification of contractile forces of human wrinkle and normal aged fibroblasts treated with calcium hydroxylapatite

Carol Courderot-Masuyer; Sophie Robin; Hélène Tauzin; Philippe Humbert

As it ages, the skin changes, it loses its natural hydration and its fundamental substance degenerates. Due to a lack of hydration and nutrients, collagen production decreases. This support tissue of the skin weakens, losing tone and firmness. Depressions form on the skins surface: these are wrinkles. Wrinkles are one of the first visible signs of the skins aging, and mainly occur on the face.
