Addition of RFI (CnF2n+1I; n=4, 6, 8) to allyl alcohol catalyzed by zinc in different solvents: application to the synthesis of F-alkyl epoxypropanes

Philippe Laurent; Hubert Blancou; Auguste Commeyras

Abstract The addition of RFI to allyl alcohol catalyzed by zinc in different solvents has beenstudied. The adduct RFCH2CHICH2OH readily gives the corresponding F-alkyl epoxypropane.

An interactive program for the graphical representation of striated faults and applied normal and tangential stresses

A Taboada; Christophe Tourneret; Philippe Laurent

Accurate analysis of striated faults may lead to the calculation of the associated reduced stress tensor ?; this is defined by four parameters, namely the three principal stress orientations Si and a stress ellipsoid shape ratio i.e. ? = (?2 - ?3)/(?1 - ?3). For a given fault plane, the basic hypothesis is that the direction and sense of displacement St correspond to the tangential stress applied upon this plane. The program we propose is written in FORTRAN 77; for each striated fault, the tangential and normal stress vectors are computed with respect to the reduced stress tensor ?. The input data are the file of fault measurements and the four parameters of ?. The outputs are composed of: (1) the stereographic projection of fault planes with direction/sense of measured striation St and applied tangential stress. (2) A histogram of the angular differences between calculated tangential stresses and directions of striations. (3) Mohr circle for stress. An optional output is proposed for the case where only the principal stress directions Si are known; then Figures 1 and 3 are drawn for incremental variations of ? in the range 0,1. The resolved shear stress values along the directions of measured striations are also computed and plotted in the Mohr diagram. A synthetic fault set is used to illustrate the application of this program.

Synthesis of aliphatic diamine and polyetherimide with long perfluoroalkyl side chain

Ricardo Escarcena Romero; André Mas; Philippe Laurent; François Schué; Hubert Blancou

Abstract The monomer, 2-(perfluorohexylmethyl)butan-1,4-diamine (TFD), was prepared from itaconic acid dimethyl ester via the addition of perfluorohexyl iodide followed by the gradual transformation of ester groups into amino groups. The polymerization of bisphenol-A diphthalic anhydride (BAPA) with TFD led to hydrophobic fluorinated polyetherimide (FPEI) with RF=C6F13 side chain. This polymer makes it possible to cast films.

A new computer method for rapid and precise determination of calcite crystallographic orientation from U -stage measurements

Christophe Tourneret; Philippe Laurent

Abstract CALCIT3 is an interactive program written in FORTRAN 77 for use on microcomputers (IBM compatible) for the complete determination of the crystallographic orientation of calcite crystals in thin sections. The input data are the U -Stage measurements of some e twin lamellae (01T2) or r cleavage (01T1) orientations. The interactivity of this program makes it possible for direct verification of the angular relationships between the measured planes; the positions of the missing planes then are calculated and the results, which concern only the e planes, are written to an ASCII file. The rotation matrix is calculated to rotate the data to the geographic reference frame. This program, which leads to a partial automation of the U -Stage measurements, is of interest for modern dynamic analysis of calcite twin lamellae and for petrofabric analyses of carbonate rocks, because the results are defined more accurately and rapidly than with classical methods.
