Computer-based system for non-contact temperature measurement of high-glittering induction-heated rotating steel cylinder

Andrzej Fraczyk; Piotr Urbanek; Jacek Kucharski

Induction heated rotating steel cylinders are mainly used in paper-making, textile and chemical industry. Low emissivity and moving surface are the main difficulty of temperature measurement in this kind of devices. In the paper the real-size induction heated rotating steel cylinder has been described. Additionally, it has been used to investigating the possibility of using the infra-red thermocouples to non-contact temperature measurement. The influence of emissivity varying for temperature readings has been described and the methods of reduction disadvantageous phenomenon has been proposed.

Surface temperature control using thermal image processing

Tomasz Jaworski; Jacek Kucharski; A. Frączyk; Piotr Urbanek

Abstract In the paper the computerized system for the surface temperature control of the rotating cylinder has been presented. In the presented solution, an IR camera works as a source of information about the thermal state of cylinder surface for the rest of the system. The necessary image processing algorithm as a basis for a control algorithm has been developed. An algorithm for the automatic localization of the cold cylinder by an IR camera using a set of thermal markers and a fuzzy recognition algorithm was developed. It enables one to calibrate the system properly in various operating conditions.

Methods of determination thermal conductivity in quasi industrial conditions

Piotr Urbanek

In the paper the classic Angstrom method of determining the value of conduction heat transfer has been successfully tested. The usefulness of the Angstrom method was investigated in terms of temperature measurement of metal samples deviating from the general assumptions of the method. A Hamming’s neural network was proposed to simulate the similarity of the sample metal to previously known metals. Streszczenie. W pracy sprawdzono działanie klasycznej metody Angstroma do wyznaczania wartości przewodności cieplnej właściwej . Sprawdzono przydatność tejże metody w warunkach cieplnych odbiegających od założeń metody. Wykorzystano sztuczną sieć neuronową Hamminga do określania stopnia podobieństwa materiału próbki testowej do znanych, typowych stali stosowanych w praktyce przemysłowej. Using Infrared Camera for Dynamic Properties Identification of Induction Heated Rotating Steel Cylinder

Jacek Kucharski; A. Frączyk; Piotr Urbanek

Abstract Using of precise temperature control method requires knowledge of the dynamic properties of the controlled system. It can be determined by applying infrared camera to the temperature measurement of controlled system. The article presents two models of induction heated rotating steel cylinder and the method of their parameters estimation.

Comparison of Methods for Determining the Thermal Conductivity in Induction Heated Industrial Rotating Calenders

Piotr Urbanek; Jacek Kucharski; A. Frączyk

Abstract In many technical applications it is necessary to know thermal diffusity and heat conduction in solids, liquids and gaseous. In case of solid bodies the experimental determination of those properties requires use of special laboratory stands which provides the appropriate initial and boundary conditions necessary to solve invert problems. In the paper two methods of determine thermal property of metals has been presented and discussed. First method is based on classical optimization methods and the second one by artificial neural network, which is trained with data from numerical model of investigated body. Both method were tested on real laboratory model.

Control Algorithms for Inductors Movement in Induction Heated Calenders

Andrzej Frązyk; Piotr Urbanek; Jacek Kucharski

Abstract Fixed, placed at regular distances inductors for induction heating of a rotating steel cylinder do not provide sufficiently uniform temperature profile along cylinder axis required by modern technologies,. The article examines the influence of inductors movement along the cylinder axis on the reduction of pick-to- pick temperature amplitude.
