Boric acid Catalyzed Efficient Synthesis of Symmetrical N,N' -Alkylidene Bisamides

Symmetrical N,N′-alkylidene bisamides were synthesized in excellent yield by condensation of aromatic aldehydes and amides in the presence of boric acid as a catalyst under thermal and neat microwave irradiation conditions. It is the first successful report of boric acid has been used as Lewis acid catalyst for the preparation of symmetrical N,N′-alkylidene bisamides. The remarkable advantages offered by this method are green catalyst, mild reaction condition, simple procedure, fast reaction and moderate to good yield of products.

Unprecedented One-Pot, Domino Tertiary Alcohol Protection–Michael Type Addition of Halides to Morita–Baylis–Hillman Adduct of Isatin with RCOX/K2CO3: Diastereoselective Synthesis of Oxindole Appended β-Halo Esters

A facile method utilizing RCOX/K2CO3 as a novel reagent for conjugate addition of hydrogen halide, in addition to tertiary (3°)-hydroxyl protection that leads to the synthesis of functionalized β-halo Morita-Baylis-Hillman ester appended oxindoles, has been developed. The diastereoselective one-pot O-acylation-hydrohalogenation observed cannot otherwise be performed by treatment with hydrohalide. Deprotection of a 3°-hydroxyl protecting group has also been demonstrated by treatment with hydrochloric acid.

The ‘golden triangle’ of Fc, OH/NH, COO moieties created by classical/aza-MBH reaction of ferrocenealdehyde has been exploited for the first time for the synthesis of novel multisubstituted ferrocenyl N/O heterocycles, chiral P,N ligands and ferrocenyl α-dehydro-β-peptides.
