Ni(II)-catalyzed hydrogenation of citral in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) results in the selective hydrogenation of CO over CC. The catalyst is completely inactive in conventional organic solvents. However, in presence of small amounts of CO2 in the organic solvent, the catalyst become active to the citral hydrogenation. Theoretical calculations and spectroscopic studies suggest the probability of the formation of a complex between CO2 and Ni(II) during the reaction. This, along with unique physical properties of scCO2, may be an important factor in directing the activity and selectivity of the reaction.

In this work we demonstrate the self-assembly of beta-D glucose-protected Pt nanocrystals (average particle size = 4.1 nm) into nanowire-like assemblies under ambient conditions.

Ag2S nanocrystals with a mean diameter of 5.9 nm (sigma= 1.65 nm) and characteristic surface plasmon resonance absorption at 330 nm have been synthesized in water-in-supercritical CO2 reverse microemulsion using the commonly used AOT surfactant with 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-octafluoro-1-pentanol (F-pentanol) as cosurfactant.

Utilization of supercritical carbon dioxide for the synthesis and processing of nanomaterials is an important issue in green nanotechnology. Although researchers have previously used water-in-CO 2 (w/c) microemulsions for the synthesis of metal and semiconductor quantum dots, the high cost of the specially designed fluorinated surfactants make this non-viable industrially. In this work, we demonstrate the synthesis of Ag, AgI, and Ag 2 S nanoparticles with high crystallinity in the w/c microemulsions prepared using the commercially available AOT surfactant, in the presence of perfluoropentanol as co-solvent.
