Gestão da cooperação empresa-universidade: o caso de uma Multinacional Brasileira

Priscila Rezende da Costa; Geciane Silveira Porto; Diogenes Feldhaus

This paper aims to examine how a Brazilian multinational manages cooperation with external sources of technology, such as universities and research institutes. To achieve this, qualitative research of a descriptive nature was performed and the case study method was used. Empresa Brasileira de Compressores [Embraco] was studied in depth. The survey results showed that Embraco manages cooperation with external sources of technology following a formal pattern of management, integrated by eleven administrative practices that are linearly processed. These management practices are basically carried out sequentially in three stages: the pre-development of cooperation stage, which is the project definition, the partner selection and the activity planning; the cooperation development stage, in which contracts are signed, the infrastructure is organized and activities are implemented and monitored; and the cooperation post-development stage in which the activities are evaluated, knowledge is transferred and intellectual property is guaranteed. Only monitoring and evaluation practices tend to occur more dynamically through the cooperation process.

GOVERNANÇA TECNOLÓGICA E COOPERABILIDADE NAS MULTINACIONAIS BRASILEIRAS

Priscila Rezende da Costa; Geciane Silveira Porto

The dynamic capacity to innovate and cooperate and manage their attributes and dispersion interactions are essential to survival and success for start-ups originating from developing countries such as Brazil. Given this context, one has to evaluate the extent to which technological governance affects the dynamic capability of innovation and cooperation (cooperabilidade) in Brazilian multinationals (MNB). To achieve this goal, field research was conducted in two stages, the first qualitative and quantitative second. From the results of the qualitative variables were reviewed research model and refined their hypotheses, whose testing occurred in the quantitative stage. In the qualitative method used was a multiple case study, since there were three in-depth studies: Oxiteno, Braskem and Petrobras. In the quantitative stage was conducted a survey of the universe MNB, with a final sample of 60 companies responded to a structured questionnaire. The dynamic capacity to innovate and cooperate and manage their attributes and dispersion interactions are essential to survival and success for start-ups originating from developing countries such as Brazil. Global Organization of Innovation and Cooperability in Brazilian Multinationals

Priscila Rezende da Costa; Geciane Silveira Porto; Simone Vasconcelos Ribeiro Galina; Marcos Roberto Piscopo; Emerson Antonio Maccari

Understanding the dissipation of innovations is necessary to develop them, as a company on its own does not have all the capabilities that it needs. On the contrary, they are increasingly spread over internal and external contexts, and are not developed in isolation. Most of the time, they depend on interactive, innovative processes in a global context. The aim of this study is to evaluate how the global organizational structure of innovation affects the dynamic capability of cooperation (cooperability) in Brazilian multinationals (BMNs). To achieve this goal, we conducted a survey of BMNs, and a final sample of 60 companies answered a structured questionnaire. We performed statistical tests such as Factor Analysis, Cronbachs Alpha, Multiple Regression and Hierarchical Cluster, and cross-analysis of quantitative results that enabled us to create a Cooperability Model, that is, a model of local, international and global development for a dynamic capability of cooperation in BMNs. The results show that technological strengths of foreign subsidiaries and the reverse transfer of their capabilities to the parent company and technology partners affect the dynamics of cooperation in BMNs (inputs and results of cooperability). Furthermore, we detected an inverse relationship between the autonomy of foreign subsidiaries and the dynamic of cooperation in BMNs.

Internationalisation of innovation as a propeller of the relational capability of a subsidiary: the case of Siemens Brasil

Antonio De Sant'Anna Limongi França; Emerson Antonio Maccari; Priscila Rezende da Costa

Given the operating context of multinational corporations, creating value does not depend only on the centralised development of innovation. In fact, it often involves the dynamic and interactive capability of generating relevant and adherent innovating solutions at the global level, including headquarters, subsidiaries and technology partners. Thus, the relational capability of dynamically developing innovation interactions can emerge. Accordingly, our objective was to analyse how the relational capability of a subsidiary can be optimised through the internationalisation practices for innovation adopted by a multinational company. For this purpose, we conducted qualitative research using the case of Siemens in Brazil. The results indicate managerial aspects of relational capability and internationalisation of innovation, in addition to mechanisms and interfaces of local development in a subsidiary.

In the context of emerging companies’ growth, current challenges depend on the local generation of product and process innovations, as well as dynamic capability to generate innovative solutions cooperatively and new globe business models. The objective of this study is to analyse the determining managerial factors for the dynamic capability of cooperation in Brazilian multinationals (BMNs). A survey was conducted with a sample of 60 BMNs, and a structured questionnaire and statistical tests with factorial analysis and Cronbachs alpha were used. The aggregate analysis of the results indicates that BMNs are going through a transitional process between the operational capability of cooperation and the capability for dynamic cooperation, which are relevant to the continuous adaptation of already-established cooperative management routines and the evaluation and incorporation of the relational capability of management practices that consider systemic flows, open innovation and integrate strategic intentionality into cooperative processes.
