Sensitivity functions of series impedance and shunt admittance matrices related to railway electric traction system have been developed in this paper. The series impedance and shunt admittance matrices of electric traction system are the functions of line parameters, geometry of the electrical traction system, permeability and shape of rail conductor and resistivity of the earth, govern the characteristic impedance and propagation constants viz. attenuation and velocity of the signal.

The contact wire experiences a dynamic force from the pantograph mechanism which results in the vibrations in the contact wire. A mathematic model between displacement of contact wire and force is developed. The displacement and dynamic force vary with the parameters of pantograph mechanism. The sensitivity analysis of pantograph model wrt parameters of interest has been carried out in this paper. Also, the time response and frequency response of close loop model of pantograph has been studied and presented.

Electric traction system mainly uses the electric power for propulsion of vehicles like railways, trams etc. Now a days, the focus of electric traction is to provide better quality service. However, providing better quality services implies increasing speed and decreasing travel time which in turn increases energy consumption. This paper deals with the parameters on which electrical energy consumption depends and carries out the sensitivity analysis of the same.

The modern high speed railway traction system consumes a lot of energy from the supply line due to high current drawn which increases the cost of travel. The optimization of energy consumption without affecting the maximum speed of the train is desired. This paper deals with the tractive energy consumption in railway traction system and optimization of the same. Various parameters of interests (e.g. acceleration; acceleration period; free run period) corresponding to optimized energy has been calculated. The intelligent and evolutionary optimization techniques have been used to determine optimized tractive energy.

In this paper, the techno-economic analysis of a Solar photovoltaic power plant installed for meeting the energy demand of Delhi Secretariat building in Delhi is carried out. Electricity bills of same months before and after commissioning of solar photovoltaic plant were analyzed. An analysis of various design aspects have also been carried out. The actual and calculated land area requirement for commissioning of plant is also compared.

The pantograph-catenary (PAC) system is one of the important interfaces between supply system and loco drive. The aim of this paper is to develop an electrical analogous of the mechanical model of PAC system. The response of the developed analogous electrical model and mechanical model are compared using simulink. Further, the hardware prototype of this electrical analogous of the PAC system is fabricated on a PCB using electric circuit elements and the response of hardware prototype and the developed electrical simulink model are compared. This model shall be useful in the designing and testing of PAC system.

Pantograph-catenary contact (interface) is the most crucial link to supply electrical power to loco drive. At high train speed, the loss of contact may occur due to the vibrations between the pantograph and catenary. In this paper, the fuzzy logic control is applied to minimize the vibrations in the force using different membership functions using MATLAB-Simulink software and the response is compared with PID controllers.

This paper presents the performance of electric traction motor drive consisting of an AC-DC converter fed vector controlled induction motor drive. The variable frequency induction motor drives used in AC traction system consist of uncontrolled ac-dc converters and voltage source inverters feeding the induction motor. Such converters induce power quality issues in the distribution system such as injecting harmonics which leads to voltage fluctuation, reactive power and low power factor issues. The converter topology discussed in this paper provides the constant dc link, keeps the input power factor close to unity and also reduces the THD of AC mains current. Direct torque control method is used to control H-bridge fed traction motor drive. Modelling and simulated results are presented to demonstrate the features of electric traction drive. The necessary modelling and simulations are done in MATLAB Simulink.
