Abstract Excess molar volumes of binary mixtures of (acetonitrile + 1-heptanol or 1-octanol) as a function of composition under atmospheric pressure and at 293.15, 298.15 and 313.15 K have been used to test the applicability of the Prigogine-Flory-Patterson theory. Both systems exhibit positive VmE values over the whole mole fraction range in the temperature range studied. The agreement between theoretical and experimental results is satisfactory for the studied systems.
