Cross sections for K−−p interactions

R. G. Glasser; N. Seeman; G. A. Snow

SummaryNine K−+p elastic scattering events and eight K− + p → → ɛ±+π∓ avents have been observed in nuclear emulsion. These events yield Σ(k−+ p→ k−+ p) = 33−9+12mb and Σ(k−+ p → ɛ+− + π−+)= 29−9+12mb averaged over the energy region 0/82 MeV. The data indicate that Σ(k− + p → ɛ+− + π−+)rises as the K− energy decreases.

K− interactions with free protons in nuclear emulsion

R. G. Glasser; N. Seeman; G. A. Snow

SummaryA total of 19 (K-, p) elastic scattering events and 14 K−+p → →±+π∓ events in flight have been found, including the results reported previously. Averaging over the energy region (0 ÷ 82) MeV, the cross sections are respectively, σe = (37-9+9) mb and σa= (27-6+8) mb. The best estimate of the Σ+/Σ- ratio at production is 1.2-0.6+1.0.RiassuntoCompresi i risultati precedentemente riferiti si sono trovati in totale 19 eventi di scattering elastico (K-, p) e 14 eventi K-+p → Σ±+π∓ in volo.
