Elastic scattering of {sup 14}N by {sup 40}Ca, {sup 56}Fe, {sup 62}Ni, {sup 70, 74}Ge, {sup 90}Zr, and {sup 118}Sn

Elastic scattering of {sup 14}N by {sup 40}Ca, {sup 56}Fe, {sup 62}Ni, {sup 70, 74}Ge, {sup 90}Zr, and {sup 118}Sn has been studied in the region of the Coulomb barrier in order to extract optical-model parameters and interaction barrier heights. Angular distributions were measured in 10° steps from 20° or 30° to 170° over an energy range of 24 to 54 MeV. Although barrier heights determined from the optical-model parameters were 20% lower than the static Coulomb barrier Z{sub 1}Z{sub 2}e{sup 2}/1.35 (A{sub 1}{sup 1/3} + A{sub 2}{sup 2/3}), are consistent with those calculated by several models.
