Abstract A study of the reaction 2 H(p,n)2p is reported which resolves the discrepancy among the values of the 1 S 0 n-n scattering length deduced from the reaction 2 H(n,p)2n. Our value a n = −16.7 +2.6 −3.0 fm is consistent with results from the 2 H(π − , 2n)γ and 3 H(d, 3 He)2n reactions.

The angular variation of the α-particle spectra from the reaction has been measured at 43.7 MeV and 53.0 MeV laboratory energy. The energy spectra show a prominent peak at the high-energy end and its angular distributions exhibit a pronounced diffraction pattern. Good fits to the spectra are obtained with the Watson-Migdal final-state formalism using the known p-p scattering parameters.

Abstract The neutron energy spectrum from the reaction 3 He(p, n) 3p has been measured at a laboratory angle of 8° for a proton bombarding energy of 24.9 MeV. A deviation of the spectrum shape from the prediction for four-body phase space has been observed.

Triton spectra from the reaction ^3He(^3He,t)3p have been measured at a bombarding energy of 44 MeV for lab angles between 6° and 25°. These spectra are quite featureless and show no indication of either a 3p final-state interaction or of a strong sequential decay mode.

Abstract The polarization of protons elastically scattered from deuterium has been measured at four energies between 10 and 20 MeV incident proton energy. The asymmetry is seen to become negative for large angles at 19.1 MeV and for small angles at 11.0 and 13.2 MeV.

Abstract Measurements of the polarization in p-d scattering at 11.6 MeV show a minimum in the asymmetry distribution at 29° c.m. This observation seems to be consistent with spin-orbit effects in the p-d interaction at this energy.
