A study and comparison of the inclusive reactions π+n → ϱ0X and K−p → K∗0X

R.L. Eisner; W. Fickinger; J.A. Malko; D. Matthews; J. O'Reilly; J.F. Owens; D.K. Robinson; S.U. Chung; S.D. Protopopescu

Abstract Data are presented on the reactions π + n → ϱ 0 + X and K − p → K ∗0 + X at 6.0 and 7.3 GeV/ c , respectively. Comparisons are made between these two reactions and with other reactions involving inclusive vector meson production at different energies.

Amplitude analyses of the reactions π+p → (ϱ0, ω) Δ++ at 7.1 GeV/c

J.F. Owens; R.L. Eisner; S. U. Chung; S. Protopopescu

New data are presented, in the form of statistical tensors, for the reactions π+p → (ϱ0, ω)Δ++ at 7.1 GeV/c. Using these data, two types of model-dependent amplitude analyses have been performed. Both analyses, though based on different sets of assumptions, yield results which are in agreement with each other. The structure observed in the magnitudes and phases of the extracted amplitudes is consistent with that expected on the basis of currently accepted phenomenological ideas.

Unnatural parity exchange in π+p → (ϱ, ω)Δ++

J.F. Owens; R.L. Eisner; S. U. Chung; S. Protopopescu

Abstract The magnitudes and relative phases of the unnatural parity exchange amplitudes in π + p → ( ϱ o , ω ) Δ ++ are determined at 7.1 GeV/ c using a model dependent amplitude analysis technique.

A comparison of reactions of the type PB → VOΔ

J.F. Owens; R.L. Eisner; S. U. Chung; S. Protopopescu

A comparison of the reactions π+p → ϱ0Δ++, π+p → ωΔ++, and K+p → K∗o Δ++ is made using data near 7 GeV/c. Particular attention is paid to the question of relative normalization for each of the reactions. Using an SU(3) sum rule, predictions are made for the reaction K−n → K∗0 Δ−. A phenomenological model is presented which is based on Regge pole exchange modified by Regge cuts in those amplitudes with zero net helicity. Excellent fits to the ϱ0Δ++ and ωΔ++ observables are obtained. The resulting amplitudes are then used to predict the observables in K+p → K∗0 Δ++.

Λ and K0 production in p↑p interactions at 6 GeV/c

R.L. Eisner; W. Fickinger; S.L. Glickman; J.A. Malko; J.F. Owens; D.K. Robinson; S. Dado; A. Engler; G.S. Keyes; T. Kikuchi; R.W. Kraemer

Results on K0 and Λ production in p↑p interactions at 6 GeV are presented. The data are from an exposure of the Argonne 12 ft bubble chamber to a 60% transversely polarized proton beam. Results include data on Λ and K0 inclusive production, and on the reactions p↑p → pΛK+(pΣ0K+). The beam asymmetry parameter for p↑p → K0(K0) + X is determined to be (−0.52 ± 0.12).

Observation of a high-mass Δ++ produced in association with K*, ϱ and ω

S. U. Chung; S. Protopopescu; R.L. Eisner; M. Alston-Garnjost; A. Barbaro-Galtieri; J.H. Friedman; G.R. Lynch; M.S. Rabin; F.T. Solmitz; S.M. Flatté

Abstract Strong evidence is presented for quasi-two-body production of a π + p enhancement with mass 1881±6MeV and width 219±23MeV, recoiling off vector mesons ϱ O and ω from π + p interactions at 7.1 GeV/ c and K * o (890) from K + p interactions at 12 GeV/ c . The most probable J P assignment for this object is 7/2 + , making it a likely candidate for the Regge recurrence of Δ(1236).

PP interactions at 6 GeV/c in the 12 foot chamber with polarized beam

R.L. Eisner; W. Fickinger; J.A. Malko; J.F. Owens; D. K. Robinson; S. Dado; A. Engler; G. Keyes; T. Kikuchi; R.W. Kraemer

Results are presented from a 120k picture exposure of the ANL 12 foot chamber to 6 GeV/c 60 percent transversely polarized protons. Included are final results on LAMBDA and d K/sup 0/ inclusive production in which a K/sup 0/ beam polarization asymmetry parameter of (-.65 +- .15) is obtained. Preliminary results on ..delta../sup + +/ production in the reactions p up arrow p ..-->.. ..delta../sup + +/n and p up arrow p ..-->.. ..delta../sup + +/ + X will be presented. In addition, a comparison of the polarization of the low mass enhancements produced in the reactions p up arrow p ..-->.. p(p..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/), p(n..pi../sup +/) and p(p/sup 0/) is given.
