Abstract 24 Mg( 6 Li, d) angular distributions for transitions to low-lying states in 28 Si are well fitted by exact finite-range DWBA calculations and yield relative spectroscopic strengths in good agreement with theoretical predictions as well as with the corresponding results from other α-particle transfer reactions.

Abstract The back angle scattering of 20 Ne and 24 Mg ions from 12 C display structured excitation functions and oscillatory angular distributions. These measurements bridge the gap between the previously studied 12 C + 16 O and 12 C + 28 Si systems.

Abstract The spins of resonances appearing at 22 MeV c.m. entrance channel energy in the 12C + 16O system are determined. Several inelastic transitions are used and a value of Jπ = 15− is deduced. This value disagrees with a previous Jπ = 14+ assignment based on elastic scattering, but agrees with the Jπ = 15− value predicted at this energy by a recent microscopic calculation of 12C + 16O scattering.

The test of the /sup 16/O, /sup 12/C reaction by comparing reduced widths derived from the transfer reactions and known alpha emitters in the rare earth region was carried out. Targets of /sup 140/Ce, /sup 142/ /sup 144/Nd, and /sup 148/Sm were bombarded with an 88 MeV /sup 16/O beam. Angular distributions are shown, and DWBA calculations were performed. Good agreement is not obtained. 2 references. (JFP)
