Abstract The paper includes the application foundations of the integrational method of mine production process modelling to planning the extraction process in coal panels. The main idea of mathematical model creation based on the principle of the integration of elementary structural units according to spatial, engineering, and time structures of the production process in longwall and exploitation panels is briefly described. The model can be used as an investigation tool for making optimal planning decisions according to the economic criterion assumed. An example of practical application of the method is briefly described. It takes into consideration the impact of exploitation panel dimensions on the optimal longwall face length. Selected conclusions derived from the calculation results are presented.

SummaryThe basic foundations of an integrational method of modelling and estimating the economic effectiveness of a deep coal mine production process is presented. The method is founded on the concept of integration of smaller structural elements into larger ones in order to obtain a representational model of the whole mine production process. It involves analysis of the spatial, engineering and time structures of the mining process. The basic structural unit of the production process is the elementary time interval,T, together with a linear function of the approximate intensity of financial outlays or effects. The repeated integration of these elementary time intervals within the spatial, engineering and time structures of the mine production process can be extended to model the whole mine or discrete spatial structure elements. The model may be used to investigate the trends of financial outlays and effects, and their current values updated for arbitrarily assumed updating moments. The model can also be used as an investigation tool for analysing the economical effectiveness of the mine production process.

Abstract The paper includes some examples of the application of the gradient method of optimal mine location. The set of location factors affecting the mine location is considered and the method of approach briefly described. The application of the method for the simple example of a deep coal mine is discussed. This application is taken into consideration in two ways: as the unconstrained problem, and also as the constrained problem within the area of feasible mine location. The objective functions considered are: the transportation effort, transportation outlays and their present values.
