A photochemical route to synthesize cryptosanguinolentine

R. Nandha Kumar; T. Suresh; P. S. Mohan

A synthesis of an indoloquinoline based alkaloid, isolated from Cryptolepis sanguinolenta is reported. The formation of a Schiff base between aniline and indole-3-carbaldehyde and subsequent photochemical transformation afforded the desired alkaloid.

Fitoterapia | 2002

Antibacterial activity of Mappia foetida leaves and stem

R. Nandha Kumar; H. Vishwanathan; T. Suresh; P. S. Mohan

Successive petroleum ether, chloroform and methanol extracts of Mappia foetida leaves and stem were tested for their antibacterial activity. The methanol fractions were found to be most effective against all the tested organisms.

Spectroscopy Letters | 2002

STRUCTURAL ELUCIDATION AND 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, AND MASS SPECTROSCOPIC STUDY OF NOVEL 4-CHLORO-3-FORMYL-2(VINYL-1-OL) QUINOLINES AND 3-FORMYL-4-HYDROXY-2-METHYL QUINOLINES

R. Nandha Kumar; T. Suresh; P. S. Mohan

ABSTRACT The Vilsmeier Haack reaction upon 4-hydroxy-2-methyl quinolines yielded some unprecedented compounds. Elucidation of the structure of hitherto unknown novel 4-chloro-3-formyl-2(vinyl-1-ol)quinolines and 3-formyl-4-hydroxy-2-methyl quinolines by NMR and Mass Spectroscopic methods is reported.

Spectroscopy Letters | 2004

Structural Elucidation: IR, 1H‐NMR and Mass Spectroscopic Study of Novel 4‐Amino‐6‐oxo,4a,5,12,12a-tetrahydro(7H ),benzopyrano[3,2‐c]quinoline

R. Nandha Kumar; T. Suresh; P. S. Mohan

Abstract 1‐methyl‐3‐methylene‐2,4(1H,3H )‐quinolinedione, prepared from 4‐hydroxy‐1,3‐dimethyl‐2(1H )‐quinoline with aniline and 2,3‐dichloro‐5,6‐dicyano‐1,4‐benzoquinone in dry benzene for 48 hr, gave the Diels–Alder cycloaddition products. Elucidation of hitherto unknown 4‐amino‐6‐oxo,4a,5,12,12a‐tetrahydro‐(7H ),benzopyrano[3,2‐c]quinoline by IR, NMR, and mass spectroscopic methods is reported.

Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds | 2005

Synthesis of 6-Methylbenzo-[b]pyrido[3,2-f][1,6]naphthyridines from 4-Chloro-2-methylquinoline

T. Suresh; R. Nandha Kumar; P. S. Mohan

Abstract4-Chloro-2-methylquinolines in reaction with 3-aminopyridine yielded 4-quinolinamines, which upon cyclisation under Vilsmeier-Haak conditions afforded the title compounds.

Heterocyclic Communications | 2005

Synthesis of Pyranoquinoline alkaloids via (4+2) cycloaddition reaction

T. Suresh; T. Dhanabal; R. Nandha Kumar; P. S. Mohan

Heterocyclic Communications | 2003
