Solvent isotope effect on the photophysics of Ru(bpy)32+ and Ru(phen)32+ in aqueous solution at room temperature

Abstract At 22°C. the lifetime of ( 3 CT)Ru(bpy) 3 2+ in H 2 O/D 2 O mixtures increases with increasing mole fraction of D 2 O While the lifetime of ( 3 CT)Ru(phen) 3 2+ remains unchanged. The efficiency of intersystem crossing is unaffected by solvent deuteration for Ru(bpy) 3 2+ while it is ≈ 20XXX larger in D 2 O than in H 2 O for Ru(phen) 2+ 3 .
