Thermal Effects During the Absorption of CO2 in Aqueous Solutions of 3-Amino-1-Propanol

F. Camacho; S. Sánchez; Rafael Pacheco

In this work, we study the process of CO 2 absorption, at high partial pressures, in aqueous solutions of 3-amino-1-propanol (AP), with respect to the thermal effects of this operation. All of the experiments were performed in a stirred tank gas-liquid reactor with a flat, known interface. The variables considered were the AP concentration in the range of 0.1 to 3.0 M and the temperature within the interval of 288-313 K. From the results, we deduce that the process takes place in the instantaneous nonisothermal regime, and we propose an equation which relates the experimental results of molar flux with the initial amine concentration. At the same time, we can evaluate the temperature increase at the gas-liquid interface.

Abstract In this work, the absorption of pure carbon dioxide by aqueous triethanolamine solutions (TEA) was studied in terms of the kinetic process. The process was made in a stirred tank reactor with a flat and known interfacial area, the operating variables being temperature (288 to 313 K) and concentration in the range 0.1-2.0 M. From the results, it was deduced that the absorption of pure carbon dioxide by aqueous triethanolamine takes place under isothermal conditions in which there is an instantaneous reaction regime at low concentrations, while at higher concentrations it takes place in a moderately fast reaction regime, following a first-order kinetic with respect to alkanolamine. In these conditions of concentrations and temperatures essayed, an expression for the constant kinetic was deduced.

Study of corrosion of AISI 420 in the CO2 absorption process using 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol aqueous solutions

Abstract In this work, the corrosion behaviour of the stainless steel AISI 420 in the CO2 absorption systems using aqueous 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP) solutions is studied. Three process parameters were considered: temperature (293–323 K), amine concentration (0·1–2·0 kmol m−3) and CO2 flow (0·0–0·5 L min−1). Electrochemical techniques were used to determine the corrosion rate by means of a potentiostat. For each experiment, the electrochemical parameters (corrosion potential and current, anodic and cathodic slopes) were calculated, as well as the corrosion rate, using the Tafel method. At the same time, the pitting susceptibility was evaluated by potentiodynamic tests. According to the results, the influence of the studied variables and the steel characteristics on the polarisation curves and corrosion rate was analysed. Experimental results show that an increase in solution temperature and AMP concentration causes higher corrosion rate. The obtained results indicate that it is not likely to have pitting corrosion in these systems.

Influence of Extreme Storage Conditions on Extra Virgin Olive Oil Parameters: Traceability Study.

Alfredo Escudero; Natividad Ramos; M. Dolores La Rubia; Rafael Pacheco

This study reflects the effect of extreme storage conditions on several extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) varieties (arbequina, hojiblanca, and picual). The conditions were simulated in the laboratory, by means of heating treatments in stove at different temperatures (40 and 60°C) and times (two and three weeks). The aim is the evaluation of the deterioration of the quality parameters and minority components, which are responsible for the nutritional and therapeutic properties (fatty acids, polyphenols, pigments, and tocopherols), and organoleptic qualities. The quality criteria and limits used in this work are according to International Olive Council. The results contribute to the control of the traSceability for the commercialization of the EVOO.
