DCE-MRI Breast Image Registration for Tumour Diagnostics

Karol Kuczyński; Maciej Siczek; Rafał Stęgierski

A framework for automatic registration of magnetic resonance breast images is presented. Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) is a relatively new, promising technique for breast cancer diagnostics. A few series of images of the same body region are rapidly acquired before, during and after injection of paramagnetic contrast agent. Propagation of contrast agent causes modification of MR (magnetic resonance) signal over time. Its analysis provides information on tissue properties, including tumour status, that is not available with the regular MRI. A patient should not move during the whole imaging session, but it is not always feasible. Unintentional movements result with misalignment of consecutive image sequences. It makes further analysis hardly possible. The proposed registration framework, consisting of B-spline transformation, mean squares metric and LBFGSB optimizer is expected to solve this problem.

The Perception of Humanoid Robot by Human

Rafał Stęgierski; Karol Kuczyński

The article presents results of experiments which test acceptance level of a humanoid robot. We stated that in most cases people have tendencies to anthropomorphize machines, especially humanoid ones. Acting like this is a result of a social bias, so characteristic for our specie. We conducted two experiments in which participants during a poll were in a room with a robot observer, with active face and sound tracking implemented. By analyse of post review questionnaire and time parameters from video recording, we could point out that in some cases participants observed robot’s behaviours which had not taken place, but are quite natural for a human.

Problems of Infrared and Visible-Light Images Automatic Registration

Karol Kuczyński; Rafał Stęgierski

In this paper the problem of infrared and visible-light images registration is analysed. The authors propose a registration procedure that could be used for a wide range of applications. It is based on B-spline transformation and mutual information similarity measure.

Application of image registration techniques in breast dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging

Karol Kuczyński; Maciej Siczeky; Rafał Stęgierski; Paweł Mikołajczak

Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) is a relatively new, promising technique for breast cancer diagnostics. A few series of images of the same body region are rapidly acquired before, during and after injection of paramagnetic contrast agent. Propagation of the contrast agent causes modification of MR signal over time. Its analysis provides information on tissue properties, including tumour status, that is not available with the regular MRI. If a patient unintentionally changes position during the examination, then the consecutive image series are not properly aligned and their analysis is difficult, inaccurate or even impossible. The purpose of this work is to design a registration scheme that could be applied to solve the problem in a routine manner, in standard hospital conditions. The proposed registration framework, composed of B-spline transformation, mean squares metric and LBFGSB optimizer, is able to produce satisfactory results within reasonable time.

Image Registration Tuning for DCE-MRI Breast Imaging

Karol Kuczyński; Maciej Siczek; Rafał Stęgierski

DCE-MRI is a novel medical imaging technique for breast cancer diagnostics. Unintentional patient’s movements during imaging session result with misalignments between consecutive image series. Their analysis is then problematic. The problem can be solved by application of image registration procedure. A system for DCE-MRI breast image registration, using B-spline transformation has been created. The paper presents work on its testing and tuning, to improve both performance and accuracy.

Emulation of the Double-X Cinematography Negative Film

Rafał Stęgierski; Karol Kuczyński

Article presents work-flow which gives possibility to emulate characteristics of the one of the most popular black and white film negative used in cinematography. Presented procedure is based on examination of the source material and technical data available from manufacturer and could be easily used for preparation characteristics of other available stocks.

Article presents fast, developed by authors, method of the face reconstruction for forensic science which is based on a deformation of the known skin aligned to its skull. Procedure for finding new position of the vertices of a triangle mesh of the model presented in this paper is based on a position of the well known anatomical landmarks and results of the inverse distance weighted interpolation. Additionally usage of the skin thickness values from anthropological tables increase accuracy of final model. As a example of the available results reconstruction for archaeological investigation is presented.
