The comparative evaluation based on the power speed density of several types of portable Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) considered for agricultural applications is presented. These generators are purposely designed to be used in agriculture sectors and thereby it should be of lightweight, small in size and ease to use. Six difierent generator topologies are developed for investigation of such purposes. A number of design parameters are considered to analyze the performance characteristics for each type of developed PMG. Based on the power speed density factor that is used to describe better generator performance, the suitable PMG for the agricultural application is identifled through a comprehensive evaluation.

This paper discusses on the improvement of power density of hollow rotor compared to conventional spoke type Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG). The objective of this research is to propose a rotor structure that could improve the power density by maximizing the flux linkage of the machine. In this research the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is used to simulate the characteristics of the hollow rotor spoke type PMG at various speed. The result shows that the hollow-rotor topology has higher back electromagnetive force and output voltage compared to conventional spoke type PMG. In addition, the hollow-rotor spoke type motor has higher output power compared to conventional spoke type PMG. In summary, this paper provides an overview of the performance of the hollow-rotor spoke type topology that contributes high power density.

The improvement in the power density in the double stator configurations is feasible with increase in the electrical loading of the electrical machines. This type of newer configuration is finding significant applications in improvising energy generation, more commonly for renewable energy generation. Various double stator configurations with non-arc permanent magnet machines for power density are modelled and analyzed in this paper. Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to simulate for the generation capability including the electromagnetics parameters such as flux linkage and open circuit voltage. A new slotted rotor structure is evolved based on the magnetic flux flow control inside the machine. The proposed structure is then fabricated in the laboratory and tested for operating characteristics with load circuit. The proposed machine produces a maximum power of 600W at speed of 2000 rpm with 75% of maximum efficiency with the micro-hydro generation unit.

This paper discuss about the effect of slot-width in slot-type linear motor. Linear motor is a device that produces linear motion without using any mechanical transmission to convert from rotary motion to linear motion. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of slot-width in slot-type linear motor. The force needs to be maintained for used in food processing application. Besides that, the slot-width is adjusted to obtain long displacement for the mover to move. Ansys Maxwell software is used to simulate the performance for this innovation. The variable parameters are the height of slot pole shoe, gap between coils, number of turns and height of coil. This investigation can give an idea to design the new device that requires compression method. The new device will help to overcome and solve the weakness of the conventional compression method. In conclusion, this research provides overview and guidelines of slot-type linear motor for food processing application.

Recently, linear motor has gained popularity to be used in a linear motion system. Compared to the traditional system that uses a rotary motor coupled with a motion translation system, the linear motor offers a better dynamic performance by producing a direct linear motion and eliminates mechanical limitations. Recently, due to greater performance, most researchers are focused on the design and development of the permanent magnet linear motor (PMLM). Various types of PMLMs were designed and their performances were compared to each other. Generally, the performances of the PMLMs were compared using thrust, F. However, the thrust was dependent on other parameters such as current, i, input power, p and volume, Vmot. Therefore, in order to create a valid comparison, these parameters need to be normalized. Hence, other performance characteristics such as thrust constant, Kf, motor constant, km and motor constant square density, G have been used as the performance index. In this paper, the performance comparisons of PMLM were discussed through an actual performance data from a commercialized PMLM. A limit performance index against volume, Vmot was established for performance estimation and the benchmarking of the PMLM. Furthermore, comparisons of different types of PMLM were also discussed.
