Demonstration of IP based control and management for a reconfigurable photonic access network

An implementation of control and management for a reconfigurable photonic access network is presented. An out of band control channel is used on which an IP communication is established to communicate with remote elements. A Headend based master controller communicates with a far end embedded processor, this in turn is used to control and manage remote devices in the network.

Design of a of a survivable multi-wavelength photonic access network

This paper investigates the design of protection schemes in an extended access network. The network is modeled as a stack of quasi independent logical passive optical networks (PONs), each operating the IEEE Ethernet passive optical networks (EPON) protocol. The dynamics of the network operation when protection schemes are employed are presented and discussed.

Case for Dynamic Reconfigurability in Access Networks

The paper discusses the merits of having a reconfigurable access network. The network is viewed as a stack of logical PONs in which bandwidth can be redistributed on an inter-PON scale. The redistribution allows for optimal distribution of bandwidth to the end user.
