The 10th IFEA World Congress was held in the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa. This is only the second such Congress held in the Southern Hemisphere. The impressive Cape Town International Convention Centre was a fitting venue for such an important event (Figs 1–6). On a beautiful sunny Saturday in Cape Town, proceedings got underway with a welcome by IFEA President, Professor Sam Dorm (USA), followed by Professor Peet van der Vyver, Chairman of the Organizing Committee. The theme of the Conference was “Endodontics and Restorative Excellence at the Apex of Africa”. The African influence was very apparent throughout the Conference. As always, this World Conference was well attended with over 400 registrants from extremely diverse countries. Following the formalities, the Scientific lectures began with a most informative and interesting lecture given by Professor Markus Haapasalo (Vancouver, Canada). Other Keynote speakers were (in alphabetical order): Dr. Christine Berthold (Canada) Prof. Elio Beruttic (Italy) Dr. Guiseppe Cantatore (Italy) Dr. Analdo Castillucci (Italy) Dr. Antonis Chaniotis (Greece) Dr. Bernard Friedland (USA) Prof. Gianluca Gambarini (Italy) Dr. Jim Gutmann (USA) Dr. Sergio Kuttler (USA) Dr. Martin Levin (USA) Dr. Tara McMahon (Belgium) Prof. Francesco Mangani (Italy) Dr. John Meechan (UK) Dr. Yoshitsugu (Japan) Dr. Martin Trope (USA) Prof. Peet van der Vyver (South Africa). The 28 countries whose National Associations form IFEA, sponsored speakers to the Conference. The subjects of these presentations were extremely diverse, ranging from regenerative endodontics to CBCT, minimally invasive accesses to the restoration of endodontically treated teeth. Australia (ASE) was exceptionally well represented by Dr. Pat Caldwell (Federal ASE Secretary), whose topic was “Invasive Cervical Resorption: Coming Soon to a Tooth Near You”. Added to this, were a number of “free lectures” and a very large number of short oral presentations (27) and Posters (23). As is usual for such an important Conference, there was a large trade exhibition. Most local and international dental companies were represented. This exhibition was a “sell out” days before the Conference began. As ever, there was an incredible array of equipment, materials and techniques on display. The Welcome Reception was held at the closure of the first day. It was very well attended and in keeping with the usual practice took place in the “Trade” area, fostering even more mixing between the company representatives and the delegates. Before the completion of the Conference, delegates were invited to the Gala Dinner, held at one of the waterfront hotels. Attendance at this event was a little disappointing, but those who did, participated in an African buffet and were entertained by an extremely noisy local band. World Congresses of IFEA now occur every 2 years (previously every 3 years) and are the occasion when the next Executive is elected. At this event, Dr. Mark Wotzke (Adelaide, Australia) was elected President. I extend my congratulations to Mark on his election to this most prestigious position and wish him well for his term of office. The remainder of his Executive are: Prof. Sung-Kio (Luke) Kim (South Korea) – President Elect Dr. Catherine Ricci (France) – Secretary Dr. Terry Farmakis (Greece) – Treasurer Prof. Sam Dorm (USA) – Immediate Past President. At this general Meeting, attendees were updated with details of the 11th World Congress to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, 03–06 May, 2018. A progress report was also given concerning the 12th World Congress to be held in Chennai, India in 2020. Three countries – Portugal (Lisbon), South Korea (Soul) and the United Kingdom (Glasgow) – made representations, hoping to be the venue for the 13th World Congress in 2022. All presentations were extremely worthwhile with the eventual winner being South Korea. My attendance at the World Congress was supported by ASE and I thank them for their support. I would
