Fractional Newtonian mechanics

Dumitru Baleanu; Alireza K. Golmankhaneh; Raoul R. Nigmatullin; Ali Khalili Golmankhaneh

In the present paper, we have introduced the generalized Newtonian law and fractional Langevin equation. We have derived potentials corresponding to different kinds of forces involving both the right and the left fractional derivatives. Illustrative examples have worked out to explain the formalism.

Detection of quasi-periodic processes in complex systems: how do we quantitatively describe their properties?

Raoul R. Nigmatullin; A. A. Khamzin; J. A. Tenreiro Machado

It has been shown that in reality at least two general scenarios of data structuring are possible: (a) a self-similar (SS) scenario when the measured data form an SS structure and (b) a quasi-periodic (QP) scenario when the repeated (strongly correlated) data form random sequences that are almost periodic with respect to each other. In the second case it becomes possible to describe their behavior and express a part of their randomness quantitatively in terms of the deterministic amplitude?frequency response belonging to the generalized Prony spectrum. This possibility allows us to re-examine the conventional concept of measurements and opens a new way for the description of a wide set of different data. In particular, it concerns different complex systems when the ?best-fit? model pretending to be the description of the data measured is absent but the barest necessity of description of these data in terms of the reduced number of quantitative parameters exists. The possibilities of the proposed approach and detection algorithm of the QP processes were demonstrated on actual data: spectroscopic data recorded for pure water and acoustic data for a test hole. The suggested methodology allows revising the accepted classification of different incommensurable and self-affine spatial structures and finding accurate interpretation of the generalized Prony spectroscopy that includes the Fourier spectroscopy as a partial case.

The derivation of the generalized functional equations describing self-similar processes

Raoul R. Nigmatullin; Dumitru Baleanu

The generalized functional equations describing a wide class of different self-similar processes are derived. These equations follow from the observation that microscopic function describing an initial self-similar process increases monotonically or even cannot have a certain value. The last case implies the behavior of trigonometric functions cos(zζn), sin(zζn) at ζ > 1 and n ≫ 1 that can enter to the microscopic function and when the limits of the initial scaling region are increasing and becoming large. The idea to obtain the desired functional equations is based on the approximate decoupling procedure reducing the increasing microscopic function to the linear combination of the same microscopic functions but having smaller scales. Based on this idea the new solutions for the well-known Weierstrass-Mandelbrot function were obtained. The generalized functional equations derived in this paper will help to increase the limits of applicability in description of a wide class of self-similar processes that exist in nature. The procedure that is presented in this paper allows to understand deeper the relationship between the procedure of the averaging of the smoothed functions on discrete self-similar structures and continuous fractional integrals.

NIMRAD: novel technique for respiratory data treatment

Raoul R. Nigmatullin; Clara-Mihaela Ionescu; Dumitru Baleanu

This paper illustrates the efficiency and simplicity of a new technique which is determined in this paper as NIMRAD (the non-invasive methods of the reduced analysis of data) for describing information extracted from biological signals. As a specific example, we consider the respiratory data. The NIMRAD can be applied for quantitative description of data recorded for complex systems in cases where the adequate model is absent and the treatment procedure should not contain any uncontrollable error. The theoretical developments are applied to signals measured from the respiratory system by means of the forced oscillation technique based on non-invasive lung function test. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed algorithm for developing new diagnosis tools, we apply NIMRAD on two different respiratory data sets, namely from a healthy subject and from a patient diagnosed with asthma. The results are promising and suggest that NIMRAD could be further tailored and used for specific clinical applications.

Self-similarity principle: the reduced description of randomness

Raoul R. Nigmatullin; José Tenreiro Machado; Rui Menezes

A new general fitting method based on the Self-Similar (SS) organization of random sequences is presented. The proposed analytical function helps to fit the response of many complex systems when their recorded data form a self-similar curve. The verified SS principle opens new possibilities for the fitting of economical, meteorological and other complex data when the mathematical model is absent but the reduced description in terms of some universal set of the fitting parameters is necessary. This fitting function is verified on economical (price of a commodity versus time) and weather (the Earth’s mean temperature surface data versus time) and for these nontrivial cases it becomes possible to receive a very good fit of initial data set. The general conditions of application of this fitting method describing the response of many complex systems and the forecast possibilities are discussed.

Microscopic model of dielectric α-relaxation in disordered media

A. A. Khamzin; Raoul R. Nigmatullin; Ivan I. Popov; Bektur A. Murzaliev

The micro/mesoscopic theory of dielectric relaxation has been developed. Based on the fractional kinetics it gives a possibility to obtain the desired expression for the complex dielectric permittivity (CDP) and describe the asymmetric peaks that are created presumably by the so-called ”excess wing” located in high-frequency region. The well-known empirical Cole-Davidson expression and its generalization for the CDP were obtained from this theory. This theory is based on self-similar phenomenon and multi-channel organization of relaxation process in disordered dielectrics. The relaxation parameters are connected with the structural parameters of the medium considered.

Thermodynamics of an interacting Fermi system in the static fluctuation approximation

Raoul R. Nigmatullin; A. A. Khamzin; Ivan I. Popov

We suggest a new method of calculation of the equilibrium correlation functions of an arbitrary order for the interacting Fermi-gas model in the framework of the static fluctuation approximation method. This method based only on a single and controllable approximation allows obtaining the so-called far-distance equations. These equations connecting the quantum states of a Fermi particle with variables of the local field operator contain all necessary information related to the calculation of the desired correlation functions and basic thermodynamic parameters of the many-body system. The basic expressions for the mean energy and heat capacity for the electron gas at low temperatures in the high-density limit were obtained. All expressions are given in the units of rs, where rs determines the ratio of a mean distance between electrons to the Bohr radius a0. In these expressions, we calculate terms of the respective order rs and rs2. It is also shown that the static fluctuation approximation allows finding the terms related to higher orders of the decomposition with respect to the parameter rs.

Justification of the empirical laws of the anomalous dielectric relaxation in the framework of the memory function formalism

A. A. Khamzin; Raoul R. Nigmatullin; Ivan I. Popov

Using the memory conception developed in the framework of the Mori-Zwanzig formalism, the kinetic equations for relaxation functions that correspond to the previously suggested empirical functions (Cole-Davidson and Havriliak-Negami) are derived. The obtained kinetic equations contain differential operators of non-integer order and have clear physical meaning and interpretation. The derivation of the memory function corresponding to the Havriliak-Negami relaxation law in the frame of Mori-Zwanzig formalism is given. A physical interpretation of the power-law exponents involved in the Havriliak-Negami empirical expression is provided too.

New relationships connecting a class of fractal objects and fractional integrals in space

Raoul R. Nigmatullin; Dumitru Baleanu

Many specialists working in the field of the fractional calculus and its applications simply replace the integer differentiation and integration operators by their non-integer generalizations and do not give any serious justifications for this replacement. What kind of “Physics” lies in this mathematical replacement? Is it possible to justify this replacement or not for the given type of fractal and find the proper physical meaning? These or other similar questions are not discussed properly in the current papers related to this subject. In this paper new approach that relates to the procedure of the averaging of smooth functions on a fractal set with fractional integrals is suggested. This approach contains the previous one as a partial case and gives new solutions when the microscopic function entering into the structural-factor does not have finite value at N ≫ 1 (N is number of self-similar objects). The approach was tested on the spatial Cantor set having M bars with different symmetry. There are cases when the averaging procedure leads to the power-law exponent that does not coincide with the fractal dimension of the self-similar object averaged. These new results will help researches to understand more clearly the meaning of the fractional integral. The limits of applicability of this approach and class of fractal are specified.

The First Observation of Memory Effects in the InfraRed (FT-IR) Measurements: Do Successive Measurements Remember Each Other?

Raoul R. Nigmatullin; Sergey I. Osokin; Dumitru Baleanu; Sawsan Al-Amri; Ameer Azam; Adnan Memic

Over the past couple of decades there have been major advances in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Many applications have sprouted from these fields of research. It is essential, given the scale of the materials, to attain accurate, valid and reproducible measurements. Material properties have shown to be a function of their size and composition. Physiochemical properties of the nanomaterials can significantly alter material behavior compared to bulk counterparts. For example, metal oxide nanoparticles have found broad applications ranging from photo-catalysis to antibacterial agents. In our study, we synthesized CuO nanoparticles using well established sol-gel based methods with varying levels of Ni doping. However, upon analysis of measured infrared data, we discovered the presence of quasi-periodic (QP) processes. Such processes have previously been reported to be tightly associated with measurement memory effects. We were able to detect the desired QP process in these measurements from three highly accurate repetitive experiments performed on each Ni (1–7%) doped CuO sample. In other words, successive measurements performed in a rather short period of time remember each other at least inside a group of neighboring measurements.
