A prosódia em sentenças sintaticamente ambíguas do português brasileiro: pistas de duração

Utilizando sentencas sintaticamente ambiguas pelas posicoes local e nao-local do Atributo, este artigo discute o uso da duracao como pista do mapeamento prosodico de sentencas no portugues brasileiro. O que se questiona e se os falantes diferenciam as leituras via alongamento conforme o dominio prosodico do significado pretendido. Para isso, o presente trabalho e baseado em um estudo comparativo da producao feita por 30 falantes do PB de 9 sentencas do tipo SN1-V-SN2-Atributo, em que, conforme a interpretacao, pode haver uma fronteira de frase fonologica entre SN2 e o Atributo. Para efeitos de discussao acerca do tema, a teoria prosodica de Nespor e Vogel (1986) foi adotada. Os resultados encontrados nao mostraram diferenca estatistica significativa na duracao do contexto analisado (da ultima silaba de SN2 ate a primeira silaba do Atributo) quando apenas as leituras sao consideradas, mas apontaram para uma forte correlacao entre interpretacao e informante, e em todos os casos significativos havia uma duracao maior dos contextos analisados quando o Atributo se referia a SN1, isto e, quando havia uma fronteira de frase fonologica entre SN2 e o Atributo.

Hierarquia prosódica e hierarquia melódica na canção Gabriela

In this article we investigate the relation between the linguistic (prosodic) component and the musical grammar in lyrics. Specifically, by analyzing Gabriela, by Tom Jobim, we discuss the relation between the Prosodic Hierarchy (Nespor & Vogel 1986) and the Melodic Hierarchy (Carmo Jr 2007). We show that when there is a mismatch between these two hierarchies, the phonological processes of elision, degemination, dipthongation and stress retraction in Brazilian Portuguese may not comply with the prosodic domain for their application, while still satisfying the restrictions related to the melodic domains.

Retração acentual e verbos transitivos com leitura intransitiva

The focus of this paper is on the relation between syntax and prosody,by discussing the role of the empty syntactic categories in the application of the stress shift rule. The discussion about the influence of empty categories on phonological processes is not new. Usually, phonology papers argue that the access to syntax is indirect, and there is no access to phonological empty syntactic categories (cf. NESPOR;VOGEL, 1986). However, Santos (2002) argues that phonological empty syntactic categories can intervene on the rhythmic organization of utterances. She defends that pro intervene on stress shift rule, while trace is not taken into account for that rule. In order to show that,she tests utterances with stress clash between verb and adverb.In this presentation, the syntactic structures with verbs which can have a transitive or intransitive reading are tested with pro.The hypothesis is that when there is a transitive reading, the stress clash can not be solved. In the sentences where the intransitive reading is possible, there is no pro between the verb and adverb, and the stress shift rule is allowed. This prediction can be used as an evidence which favors Galves (1989) analysis that null object in Brazilian Portuguese is a pro, and not a trace.
