El peregrino indiano by Antonio de Saavedra Guzman incorporates new substances into the magic spell. In addition to La Araucana , there are ingredients that come from other discursive traditions: the Renaissance treatises of natural history, the Bible, bestiaries, emblematic literature, magic and grimoires.

their souls left their physical bodies and travelled with God or various saints. However, Lundberg reminds the reader that these spiritual experiences were still restricted. For example, whenever the women themselves said that they communicated with the ‘infidels’ they visited, they were, as with Catarina de San Juan, only considered the ‘mouthpiece for the divine’ rather than active missionaries (197). Despite their clear desire to have a more active role, their sanctioned spiritual acts were to remain passive and therefore characteristically feminine. Lundberg’s monograph confirms that vowed women could integrate themselves into the evangelization process, or were, at the very least, portrayed as having apostolic aspirations by their hagiographers. A particularly important contribution of Lundberg’s analysis is its comparative nature; by exploring a number of intriguing case studies of women religious across the Spanish colonies, we can easily see the shared experiences of contemplative women. What this comparative investigation tends to overlook, however, are the potential differences that geography might have placed on religious women and men. Overall, Lundberg’s emphasis on the significance of missionary activity in the lives of women religious is a noteworthy addition to the field.

In this paper I propose a new reading of the work of Sister Leonor de Ovando to understand its importance in Colonial Caribbean culture. The main thesis of my work is that the anthology that once was a recovery effort, made the figure and work of the nun an anachronistic topic. In my opinion we need to compare the poems of Eugenio de Salazar and Leonor de Ovando to provide an assessment of the most innovative aspects of her poetry.

A laser microscope 1 includes: a filter unit 18, which is a fluorescence-splitting mechanism that splits the fluorescence generated by the specimen S and the excitation light according to a wavelength, and that changes a wavelength at which light is split; a diffraction grating 22 that disperses the fluorescence split by the filter unit 18; a mirror 23 that changes a wavelength of fluorescence that is detected by a PMT 26 and that is dispersed by the diffraction grating 22; and a control unit 30 that controls the filter unit 18. The control unit 30 performs control to change a wavelength at which the filter unit 18 splits light in accordance with a change in the wavelength of the fluorescence that is detected by the PMT 26 and that is dispersed by the diffraction grating 22, the change being performed by the mirror 23.
