Synthesis of Antioxidative Moscatilin and Its Bibenzyl Derivatives

Moscatilin and a series of bib enzyl derivatives were synthesized from appropriate aromatic a1dehydes and phosphonium salts through the Wittig reaction. The antioxidative and cytotoxic activities of these bibenzyl derivatives were evaluated.

Cytotoxic Triterpenes from the Fruit of Ziziphus jujuha

Four triterpenes, zizyberenalic acid (1), oleanonic acid (2), ursolonic acid (3), and betulonic acid (4), were isolated from the fructus of Ziziphus jujuba Mill as active principles against the viral producing hepatoma cell line MS-G2. Their structures were elucidated by 2D-NMR spectroscopy. All of the compounds displayed anti-HBsAg and anti-HBeAg activity against MS-G2 cells. The Ec50 values against HBsAg and HBeAg were 22.3 ±0.6 and 19.3± 1.2 u1M, 18.1 ± 1.2 and 188.3 ± 0.6 uM, 23.5 ± 1.5 and 25.9 ± 3.7 uM, and 4.7 ± 1.1 and 4.5 ± 0.3 uM, respectively, for compounds 1, 2, 3, and 4. However, cytotoxic effects were found at higher concentrations with IC50 values of 41.9± 5.3, 55.2± 13.2, ＞100, and 71.7± 166.9 uM, respectively.
