Magnetostatics and coupled structural finite element analysis

L. Huang; Raymond E. Mandeville; W.D. Rolph

Abstract This presentation overviews our electromagnetic finite element analysis capabilities and considers primarily the use of an electromagnetic analysis system (EMAS) integrated with ADINA in designing micromachines. Numerical methods for magnetic force calculation are summarized and the behavior of available finite elements is examined. The convergent force result is obtainable with special attention to the mesh refinement in order to use the least computational resources. A numerical procedure for magnetic body force calculation is suggested for magnetizable material which may also carry electric current.

Design of low stress diaphragms using the contact algorithms in ADINA

Raymond E. Mandeville

Abstract This paper describes the use of the contact algorithm in ADINA in conjuction with the available elastic-plastic material models for the analysis of axisymmetric thin diaphragms. The severity of opposing loading conditions and the nature of the contact conditions preclude more standard approaches.

The use of adina to predict system response to shock loadings: the hm motor protector. A case study☆

Raymond E. Mandeville

Abstract The paper describes the use of the ADINA finite element program applied in conjunction with the PATRAN-II software system in the formulation and solution of linear and nonlinear dynamic response. Emphasis is placed on the solution of a practical engineering problem. With ADINA and PATRAN II, detailed descriptions of the effects of shock loadings on major components of manufactured motor protectors were achieved.
