In recent years, we have observed that many educational systems, especially intelligent tutoring systems, are being implemented according to an agent paradigm. Therefore, researchers in education believe that the educational computing environments would be more pedagogically effective if they had mechanisms to show and recognize the students emotions. Agent-based Tutoring Systems by Cognitive and Affective Modeling intends to present a modern view of intelligent tutoring, focusing mainly on the conception of these systems according to a multi-agent approach and on the affective and cognitive modeling of the student in this kind of educational environment. Providing researchers, academians, educators, and practitioners with a critical mass of research on the theory, practice, development, and implementation of tools for knowledge representation and agent-based architectures, this Premier Reference Source is a must-have addition to every library collection.

This paper presents the preliminary results of the Student Model based on beliefs of Self-Efficacy aiming to improve the effectiveness of Intelligent Tutoring Systems. The Self-efficacy construct means the students belief on his own capacity of performing a task. This belief affects his behavior, motivation, affectivity and the choices he makes. We design an e-Learning System, called InteliWeb, this environment is composed by the Self-Efficacy Mediator Agent and offers instruction material on Biological sciences. We use fuzzy theory for dealing with uncertainty in the assessment of the students and the incomplete knowledge about his Self-Efficacy.

This article presents InteliWeb, an intelligent e-learning system, which has an agent responsible for promoting the sense of self-efficacy and motivating the student. Self-efficacy means the students belief on his own capacity of performing a task. This belief affects his behavior, motivation, affectivity and the choices he makes. This environment is composed of the student model manager agent (SMM) and of an animated pedagogical agent and offers instructional material on biological sciences implemented with servlets and JSP pages.

This article describes an approach to distance learning based on beliefs of Self-Efficacy monitored by a fuzzy agent. More precisely, we propose an adaptable agent that takes part in InteliWeb, a learning environment over the Web that manages the student model taking into account the inferences associated to the beliefs of Self-Efficacy. Our research aims at a student model that can comprehend the necessary dynamics to support the individuality of the student by modeling the beliefs of Self-Efficacy through a fuzzy inference machine.
