THE IDENTIFICATION OF DIFFICULTIES IN USING ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECTS

The purpose of the article is to identify difficulties in using advanced technologies in the implementation of projects and their causes, taking the size of enterprises into account. Analysis of the difficulties in using advanced technologies, which occurred during implementation of projects, and of their causes, was carried out, based on a research questionnaire which was administered online and in which 787 business entities participated. The size of enterprises was taken into account in the research study. Using advanced technologies causes a number of difficulties in business practice. Findings of the research study identify types of these difficulties and give their causes. The conclusions that were drawn from the study enable attention to be drawn special to the most problematic areas of business activities connected with implementing projects with the use of advanced technologies. This research paper offers a new classification of advanced technologies as well as of their causes. The paper identifies and classifies not only the technologies, the types of enterprises (according to their size), but also the most frequent causes of the difficulties which occur during implementation of projects. This allows us to focus on the areas of activities which are most prone to difficulty occurrence.

The Scope and Capabilities of ITS – the Case of Lodz

ITS play a very important role in improving traffic in the cities. Several implementations of such systems in many countries led to positive effects both, for the traffic improvement as well as for reducing of exhaust emissions which, consequently, increase the quality of life. Some of Polish cities have just started to implement ITS and those systems cover only a part of their surface. This is mostly due to the high costs of introducing such systems. The capabilities of ITS are constantly developing therefore each subsequent implementation offers a greater range of possibilities such as: better control of traffic flow, general safety and environment protection. The authorities of Lodz, on the occasion of significant reconstruction of the city, decided to install ITS which includes 236 intersections. This fact makes it the biggest ITS in Poland. This article examines the scope and capabilities of ITS, which has just been launched (December 2015) in Lodz.

Analysis of Expanded Possibilities of ITS Systems Augmented with New Vision System Elements: The Case of Lodz

Vision systems are effective tools for optimization and control of numerous processes. They serve as a platform for the development of autonomic, smart solutions both for vehicles and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). The data acquired by the former are critical to the functioning of the latter. Vision systems enhance the capacity of ITS to effectively manage city logistics. This paper aims to identify new possibilities offered by the addition of more cameras to an existing ITS based on analysis of the largest ITS in Poland, which was deployed in Łodź, the country’s third most populous city, in December 2015.
