Cette etude analyse les liens entre la croissance et l’investissement public au cours des annees 80 a l’aide d’un modele econometrique d’equations simultanees, estime sur un echantillon de 28 pays en developpement sur onze ans (1981-91). Ce modele decrit les determinants de la croissance et de l’investissement public et prive. Le capital public est un facteur positif de la croissance, tout comme le capital humain ou le capital productif prive. Cependant, la formation du stock de capital public a genere des effets d’eviction, au detriment de la constitution du stock de capital productif prive. Neoclassical Economic Fiction and Neoliberal Political Reality: Criticism of the "Single Thought" in Political Economics

We can observe today the domination of a certain current of thought in economic theory, which can provisionally be characterized as the “neoclassical–neoliberal–orthodox” mainstream. However, in a field where the confrontation of theoretical referents is inherent to the work of the researcher, is such consensual thinking, or “single thought” even thinkable?

Defense and Security Economics

This article deals with defense and security, mainly from an economic point of view. It discusses some preliminary conceptual and methodological problems, explains the specific difficulties related to statistical data sources on military spending, and presents a historical contextualization of the theoretical debates. It wonders if defense is a public good and why the army tends to be privatized. Then it examines the effects of defense spending within the neoclassical mainstream, as well as economic studies on defense at the margins of this current. Finally, it moves toward heterodox interpretations in alternative schools of economic thought. It concludes that it is impossible to build a defense and security economics without politics.

Which Economic Model for China?—Review of La Voie chinoise by Michel Aglietta and Guo Bai

This article presents a critique of the book La Voie chinoise written by Michel Aglietta and Guo Bai. After having presented the interpretation of the Chinese “sui generis capitalism” given by the authors, we give our own interpretation. This is followed by a discussion of some of the key issues examined in the book, including the imbalances of the Chinese economy, the allocation of factors and their prices, the rules applied to the bond and stock markets, the specificities of state-owned enterprises, the conception of public services, the question of strategic planning, and that of power in “socialism with Chinese characteristics.”
