Magnetic Properties of Clb Compounds; CoVSb, CoTiSb and NiTiSb

Michiko Terada; Keizo Endo; Yuko Fujita; Ren'iti Kimura

Experimentally CoVSb is found to be a ferromagnetic compound with a ferromagnetic and a paramagnetic Curie temperature of 58 K and 75 K, respectively. The saturation magnetic moment per formula at 0 K is 0.18µ B . and the paramagnetic moment per formula 1.26µ B . The relations of the Curie temperature and magnetic moment between ferromagnetic and paramagnetic states are very different from that of usual ferromagnetic materials. CoTiSb and NiTiSb are found to be temperature independent paramagnetic compounds with the susceptibility per gram of 5×10 -7 and 6×10 -7 emu/g, respectively. It should be a noticeable fact that CoVSb has a spontaneous magnetic moment while CoTiSb and NiTiSb have not.

Magnetic properties of heusler type alloys M2XSn (M = Fe, Co or Ni, X = Ti or V)

Y. Fujita; K. Endo; M. Terada; Ren'iti Kimura

Abstract X-ray examination of the alloys M2XSn (M = Fe, Co, Ni; X = Ti, V) are consistent with a Heusler type crystal structure except for Fe2VSn. Co2TiSn and Co2VSn are ferromagnetic with Curie temperatures, ferromagnetic and paramagnetic moments per formula of 375 K, 1·95μB and 2·3 μB and 70 K, 0·56 μB and 1·51 μB respectively. Ni2TiSn and Ni2VSn show temperature independent paramagnetic susceptibilities of 1·5 × 10−6emu/g and 0·7 × 10−6emu/g, respectively. Although the alloy Fe2TiSn has the Heusler-type structure, it seems not to be ferromagnetic above 77 K. The Heusler phase of the alloy Fe2VSn has not yet been found.
