Magnetic Vibrations in A-C Generator Stators [includes discussion]

To prevent excessive magnetic vibrations in a-c generators, it is necessary to provide an adequate core mounting and to avoid resonance in the associated parts. When the frames are too complex to permit accurate analysis, the use of scale models proves valuable in obtaining the dynamic characteristics. On large machines, which cannot be tested in the manufacturers plants, simple analyses and tests may be used advantageously for determining the correction of any problem that may arise in service.

Investigation and Elimination of Unusual Vibration in the Field on a Large Single-Phase Frequency Changer

This paper describes the investigation which led to the correction of vibration trouble in the stator and rotor of a large single-phase frequency changer set. The method of correction is described. Measurements taken over a period of eight years show that the cause of vibration has been permanently corrected.
