Frecuencia de factores de riesgo para cáncer de mama en una unidad de atención primaria

Objective: to determine the frequency of the risk factors for breast cancer in patients attending a Family Medicine Clinic. Material and methods: it was made a cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective study of cases reviewing with a diagnosis of breast cancer during their different clinical stages from January 2006 to December 2010. The variables studied were: age at the time of diagnosis, Body Mass Index (bmi), family, obstetric, Diabetes mellitus, alcoholism, smoking, and prescription of exogenous hormones background. Results: after the cases reviewing 122 patients were identified with a diagnosis of breast cancer. The average age was 54.57 + 12 years, and the cases were divided by age groups, being the most frequent, with 24 cases (31.6%), the one from 40-49 years. A history of Diabetes mellitus type 2 prior to the diagnosis of breast cancer was found in 23 patients (30.3%) and the use of hormones in 37 (48.7%). The average age of menopause was 39.38 + 17.92 years. In addition, 57 patients (75%) had lactation, 21 (27.6%) were classified as overweight, 45 (59.2%) with obesity and 10 (13.2%) had normal bmi. Conclusions: risk factors presented in this study are of vital importance to identify high risk in our female population in Family Medicine.
