Abstract A reconceptualization of the problems and processes of developmental group supervision is proposed as occurring in three different but interesting domains. It is asserted that a more thorough understanding of the developmental assumptions upon which supervision models are built will help to identify deficiencies in existing models and point the way to the development of more comprehensive models.

Abstract Recent research in developmental psychology is presented that supports the conclusion that an understanding of the dynamics of self development within the social context of the group is necessary to curriculum development in ethics education. Implications for group work as central to the successful implementation of any such program are discussed.
