In order to study the behavior of three lettuce cultivars (Julia, Taina e Grandes Lagos) in four doses of filter cake (0; 10; 20 and 40 ton ha-1), in greenhouses (tunnel) was conducted an experiment at the Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso, an area with Oxisol (clay) in the months from March to May 2009. The experimental design was randomized blocks arranged in a 3x4 factorial (cultivars x dose) with four replications. We evaluated the following agronomic characteristics: circumference of the plant (CP), total fresh mass (TFM), fresh commercial mass (FCoM), head fresh weight (HFW), stem diameter (SD), number of marketable leaves (NML), stem length (SL) and total number of leaves (TNL). The cultivars Julia and Taina responded to fertilization with filter cake until the dose of 40 ton-1. The cultivar Grandes Lagos responded to fertilization with filter cake until the dose of 35 t ha-1 for TFM and HFW and up to 40 ton ha-1 for FCoM. The cultivar Grandes Lagos had the best performance in TFM, FCoM, CP and SL compared to others cultivars, and equated with the cultivar Taina in HFW and NML and with the cultivar Julia in SD. All cultivars had similar behavior in TNL. The organic fertilization with filter cake increases the productivity of cultivars of lettuce.

The pumping of water is one of the activities most diffused to the employment of the photovoltaic solar energy, in spite of coming as an interesting alternative, the high cost and it lowers efficiency of the systems with the inadequate projects, still restricts its application. The rational use, based on the most efficient use of its equipments is linked to the knowledge of the operational behavior of these systems. The present work objectified to evaluate the operational behavior of a photovoltaic water pumping directly coupled operating in different conditions of solar irradiance, by means of the assembly of supported tests, submitting to different manometer elevation and determining the supplied rate flux of water. The analysis of the results allowed to determine a regression model for flux of water estimation as function of irradiance and manometer elevation. Was concluded that the power generated by the array and the rate flux supplied by the motor-pump is directly related to the solar irradiance. The maximum efficiency of the array was of 8%, 39% for the motor-pump and, 2.3% in the interaction of the components in the system.

This work was developed during the period of February to April, 2011, with the objective of indicating which environment, greenhouse or open field, provides better conditions for production, and greater resistance to bolting of different cultivars of loose-leaf lettuce, for the climatic conditions of Caceres, Mato Grosso, Brazil, Twenty treatments were evaluated, using a randomized block experimental design in a 5 x 4 factorial of five environmental conditions (shading screens of 30 and 50%, heat-reflective screens of 30 and 50%, and open field) and four cultivars of loose-leaf lettuce (Elisa, Elizabeth, Regiane and Regina), with four replications. Harvesting was carried out 30 days after transplanting. The most productive lettuce cultivars were Regiane, which obtained the greatest number of leaves, and Regina with the smallest stem length. The environmental conditions that increased resistance to bolting in the lettuce were the shading and 50% heat-reflective screens. The cultivars themselves showed no significant differences for resistance to bolting. The objective of this study was to evaluate quality parameters of sowing and the development and yield of maize sown in no tillage system under different vegetation managements and operating speeds of the seeder in the southwest region of the S tate of Parana. A split-plot design was used, where the plots were the vegetation management of the oat (oat latticed, rolled, chopped and desiccated) and split plot the operation speeds (4.5 and 7.0 km h-1), in a randomized block design with four replications. The spacing between plants, uniformity distribution of seed, sowing depth, rate of emergence, plant stand, soil area mobilized and yield of the crop were evaluated. The tabulated data were analysed by F test at 0.05 level of probability and in case of significance, the means were compared by Tukey test at 0.05 probability level. It was concluded that the best seed distribution was observed at lower speed and the mean productivity of the crop was not affected by treatments. The management of vegetation was not effective in improving conditions for sowing.

This work was carried out at the Mato Grosso State University, Tangara da Serra campus, Brazil, aiming to evaluate the agronomic characteristics of crisphead lettuce cultivars depending on filter cake rates application in protected environment. We used a randomized blocks design in a 3x4 factorial scheme, composed by three cultivars (Julia, Taina and Rafaela) and four rates (0, 10, 20 and 40 t ha-1), with four replications. Plots size was 1.2x1.2 m with 16 plants spaced 30x30 cm each, among which the 4 central plants were evaluated. We assessed the total fresh mass, marketable fresh mass, head fresh mass, total leaf number, marketable leaf number, stem length, stem diameter and plant diameter. The cultivar Rafaela presented the highest performance for fresh mass total, marketable and head, at the filter cake rate of 20 t ha-1. The cultivars Julia and Rafaela had greater plant diameter, stem diameter, total leaf number and marketable leaf number than cultivar Taina, regardless the filter cake rate applied. The filter cake application provided higher yield and marketable quality for crisphead lettuce.

The production of the Japanese cucumber Tsuyataro was evaluated using methods of stems growth conduction, controlling the lateral buds and number of stems per plant, through pruning. The research was carried out from October to December 2010, in a protected environment in Tangara da Serra, Mato Grosso state, Brazil, using a randomized blocks design, with five replications, in a factorial scheme (2x3). The first factor was the pruning, i.e., removal or not of lateral stems and the second factor was constituted of the control of number of stems: one, two and three stems per plant, with five replications. We evaluated the following characteristics: total and marketable number of fruits, commercial fruits rate, fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit length/diameter ratio, total and marketable yield of fruit per plant and fruit average weight. The treatment with conduction of the main stem without removal of lateral buds had better performance on total and marketable number of fruits per plant (19.4 and 16.0) and higher total and marketable yield of fruits (4,235.8 and 3,438.3 g per plant). The pruning of lateral buds provided increase in length, diameter and average mass of cucumber fruits of 24.5 to 25.1 cm; 3.4 to 3.5 cm and 212.1 to 228.3 g per fruit, respectively.

The aim of this study was to identify the relation between the evapotranspirometer demand and the supply of water from local rainfall, evaluating the possibility of using water excess for irrigation of Green Roofs in the State of Mato Grosso, in Brazil. The study was done using a series of historical data provided by the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET - Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia) which has official climatological stations in 12 cities and regions of the State. The evapotranspiration values were obtained by the Penman-Monteith method and by the Climatic Water Balance (CWB) by the Thornthwaite and Mather method using Available Water Capacity (AWC) of 12mm. With the CWB the excess and deficit were calculated, which were used for the estimative of the volume and area of a reservoir as a function of a collector area of a roof of 100m2 and the volume of supplementary water for irrigation. With the obtained results, it was found that in most investigated regions of the State the use of green roofs is not compromised by the water deficiency. On the other hand, the use of a reservoir to accumulate the rain water excess may be impractical, because it requires a considerable area for installation and also because of the high cost of the land.
