Phylogeny and classification of the Stenophlebioptera (Odonata: Epiproctophora)

Abstract The Juraheterophlebiidae, new family of the “heterophlebioid” lineage, the Henrotayiidae, new family of the “anisopteroid” lineage, the Prostenophlebiidae and the Liassostenophlebiidae, new families of the Stenophlebioptera, and three new genera and species of the Stenophlebiidae are described from the Mesozoic of Germany, Spain, England, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia. The phylogenetic positions of the families Erichschmidiidae and Gondvanogomphidae are discussed. A tentative phylogenetic analysis of the Anisopteromorpha is proposed. This significantly extends our knowledge on the palaeogeographical distribution of the Stenophlebioptera and the Epiproctophora (“dragondamselflies”).

Curious snipe-flies (Diptera: Rhagionidae) from the Purbeck of Dorset, the Wealden of the Weald and the Lower Cretaceous of Spain and Transbaikalia

M. B. Mostovski; Edmund A. Jarzembowski; Robert A. Coram; Jörg Ansorge

Four new Lower Cretaceous species of the rhagionid genus Ptiolinites are described: Ptiolinites heidiae sp. nov. and P. raypearcei sp. nov. from southern England, P almuthae sp. nov. from Spain and P. oudatchinae sp. nov. from northern Transbaikalia. Re-evaluation of the antennal structure allows us to assign Ptiolinites to the subfamily Rhagioninae.

The oldest fossil biting midge (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) from the Purbeck Limestone Group (Lower Cretaceous) of southern Great Britain

Art Borkent; Robert A. Coram; Edmund A. Jarzembowski

ABSTRACT The oldest fossil Ceratopogonidae, Archiaustroconops besti sp. n., dated at 142 million years old, is described from the Purbeck Limestone Group of Dorset, southern England, United Kingdom. Represented by a single wing, it belongs to a lineage within the family, indicating that the fossil subfamily Lebanoculicoidinae, the earliest lineage, may be expected in even earlier deposits. The wing, like those of all early fossil Ceratopogonidae is small, less than 1 mm in length.

The genera Architipula Handlirsch, 1906 and Grimmenia Krzemiński and Zessin, 1990 (Diptera: Limoniidae) from the Lower Jurassic of England

Katarzyna Kopeć; Wiesław Krzemiński; Karina Skowron; Robert A. Coram

A new diagnosis and systematic clarification of the genus Architipula Handlirsch, 1906 (Diptera, Limoniidae) are presented. Architipula seebachiana Handlirsch, 1906 and A. seebachi (Geinitz, 1884) are synonymised. Liassotipula Tillyard, 1933 from the Lower Jurassic (Toarcian) of England is here considered to be a junior synonym of Architipula. The subgenus Architipula (Grimmenia Krzemiński and Zessin, 1990) is raised to the rank of genus Grimmenia and a new species, Grimmenia tillyardi n. sp., is described from the Toarcian of England.
