Polymer Parameters Affecting Aqueous Topcoat Systems

Of major concern in the field of industrial surface coatings is the elimination or reduction of volatile organic solvents in order to comply with existing or proposed pollution control laws. The substitution of water for the organic solvents or its use as the continuous phase of a coating system is one manner of approaching this problem. However, it must be stressed that the appearance, ease of application, durability, and the myriad of other desirable properties of our current coating systems should not be compromised in order to achieve a pollution free system.
