Compensation of mutual coupling in small antenna arrays

Robert Borowiec; R. Hossa; P. Slobodzian; Z. Langowski

Far-field pattern synthesis of small antenna arrays is a nontrivial problem, mainly due to mutual coupling, often precluding the use of conventional tapering algorithms. A technique to compensate for mutual coupling in small linear antenna arrays is described. The method consist of calculations of a coupling matrix, which is then used to compensate for the effects of mutual coupling. Two different methods of the calculation of coupling coefficients between the array elements are presented. In order to validate the methods, measured data for a small linear antenna array is presented and discussed.

Slot Excited Dielectric Resonator Antenna Above a Cavity - Analysis and Experiment

Robert Borowiec; Andrzej A. Kucharski; Piotr Słobodzian

The integral equation -method of moments approach to analyzing a cavity backed, slot excited dielectric resonator antenna is validated experimentally (by measurements). First, the closed rectangular metal box is considered to validate the cavity treatment. Then, the whole DRA structure, i.e. the cavity along with the slot and dielectric resonator, is tested to prove definitively correctness of the approach used.

Microstrip radiolocation antenna with electronically controlled beam built using composite technology

Robert Borowiec; A. Jankowski; Z. Langowski; P. Slobodzian

The paper describes a prototype integrated microstrip antenna column used in an IFF secondary radar system with electronically controlled radiation characteristics. This prototype column has been built using composite technology. Electrical parameter test measurements performed using the prototype and a model radar antenna array fully confirmed the applicability of composite technology in the design of IFF radiolocation system antennas.

Numerical and experimental assessment of Vlasov antenna performance for high power microwave applications

Piotr Słobodzian; Robert Borowiec

This article presents the results of numerical and experimental evaluation of performance of the Vlasov antenna in view of High Power Microwave (HPM) applications. The impact of the antenna geometry on its parameters, i.e. shape of the radiation pattern and the directional gain, is shown. Also, critical values of the electric field intensity that can excite electrical discharge are determined and trouble spots of plasma generation within antenna geometry that can block HPM emission are also determined.

Some aspects of using Simplified Real Frequency Technique

Robert Borowiec

Some new application of Simplified Real Frequency Technique (SRFT) is presented. A usage of SRFT to synthesis equivalent circuits of antennas is presented and filters with a sophisticated transfer function is shown.

Dielectric resonator filters

Robert Borowiec

Dielectric filters fills gap between microstrip and cavity filters. Unfortunately they have huge disadvantage, concerning spurious transmission out of band. In this paper some investigation towards spurious reduction was done. Perfect conducting inserts to resonators was tested to achieve the selected objective.

Assessment methods for antenna spatial separation of UMTS and LMDS systems in view of intersystem EMC

Robert Borowiec; M.J. Nawrocki; Piotr Słobodzian; Tadeusz Wieckowski

The paper presents an analysis of the possible collocation of 3G systems and LMDS. The analysis particularly addresses intersystem EMC for a given set of parameters defining the LMDS system (operating frequency: 10.5 GHz, QPSK modulation) and the collocation of UMTS and LMDS base station antennas on a common mast).
