Factor analysis: Hypnosis inventory

Abstract An inventory scale of hypnotic depth and the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale, Form A (Weitzenhoffer & Hilgard, 1959) were factor-analyzed, based on R sample of 223 college students. Both measures loaded a general factor of hypnotic depth. Rotation yielded inventory factors of unawareness, drowsiness, enthusiasm, and subjective conviction, and Stanford factors of challenge and ideo-motor-posthypnotic suggestibility. Results of an earlier study describing development of the hypnosis inventory were successfully cross validated.

Psychopathology and Seasonal Preferences; An Aspect of Temporal Experience

Summary Numerous writers have commented upon the relationship of time to personal identity and to death. Temporality and duration are held to be key elements in human self-awareness and existence. Since seasonal changes serve to mark off the passage of time, ones feelings about the seasons can be viewed as a special case of ones attitudes toward time more generally, and as one point of entry into the individuals inner universe of experience. Findings of the present study indicate that individuals differ in the feelings they invest in the seasonal context of their existence, and that these feelings are significantly influenced by the individuals emotional status.
