Abstract Trifluoromethylthiocopper(I) has been readily prepared from the silver analogue, using a metathetical reaction with copper(I) bromide. Homogeneous CuSCF 3 and the supported reagent CuSCF 3 -alumina have been compared in their reactivity towards aryl iodides, in order to form trifluoromethylaryl sulphides in good yields.

Abstract 1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-arylethanes can be prepared by the trifluoromethyldehydroxylation of benzyl alcohols using the copper-dibromodifluoromethane-amide reaction system, although the yields are low. The mechanism of the reaction may involve chelation of the substrate to copper so that α-substituted benzyl alcohols and most other alcohols are unreactive.

The copper–dibromodifluoromethane–N,N-dimethylacetamide reaction system trifluoromethylates electronically activated aryl chlorides possessing ortho groups capable of interacting with the metal.
