Biodegradable Cuff an Adjunct to Peripheral Nerve Repair: A Study in Dogs

Robert L. Reid; Duane E. Cutright; James S. Garrison

This is a report of a study in which cuffs of biodegradable copolymers were placed about ulnar and peroneal nerves in legs of ten adult mongrel dogs. The results were evaluated by clinical response, electromyographic observations, nerve conduction studies, and light microscopic examination.

The single-bone forearm—A reconstructive technique

Robert L. Reid; George I. Baker

Abstract Certain cases resulting from severe trauma, or infection or after excision of a tumour are not amenable to the usual reconstructive techniques. In such cases the single-bone concept can be an appropriate manner of approaching this problem. The dominant consideration in the cases presented was a need to reconstruct and salvage forearms that had massive anatomical and functional loss with the smallest number of surgical procedures required to restore the maximum degree of useful function to the forearm and hand.

A Biodegradable Tendon Gliding Device

Duane E. Cutright; Robert L. Reid

This paper records the experimental use of a biodegradable material as a blocking agent to improve tendon gliding after controlled trauma between tendon and bones. The results suggest that it will be valuable.
