Purpose – This paper examines how perceptions about salesforce automation (SFA) systems are influenced by the perceived accuracy of the information the system provides.Design/methodology/approach – Three hypotheses are tested. They are as follows. Sales people who perceive that the information is inaccurate will be less likely to: have a positive perception of the system; think that their training was helpful; and think that the system improves their productivity. Chi‐square tests are used to test the association between the perceptions of information accuracy and the statements in the hypotheses.Findings – Negative perceptions about the accuracy of information leads to negative perceptions about other aspects of the SFA system.Research limitations/implications – This study examines the results for only one particular organization. The results may not be generalizable to other organizations. As similar data about other SFA systems become available, this study can be used as a basis for examining the effec...

End user computing (EUC) has been studied from the standpoint of classification and management, less attention has been placed on how the utilization of the technology impacts on users jobs. This study proposes that differing levels of EUC activity will be associated with differing levels of job characteristics and computer related job outcomes. The study fbcused on the jobs of 121 middle managers and professional workers enrolled in an MBA program at a southeastem university. The study fmds that with successive levels of complexity in EUC utilization, there are corresponding increases in the levels of users experiencing of job chamcteristics and computing related outcomes. It fmds that the users experience greater amounts ofjob content as EUC is used at levels of greater complexity.

In this study we compared the classification accuracy rates of neural networks to those from ordinal logit models for a multi-state response variable. The results indicate that with the multi-state response variable, neural networks produce higher overall classification rates than ordinal logit models, but do not more accurately classify distressed firms. As a result, we can not clearly state that neural networks are superior to regression when predicting more than one level of financial distress.

Security and trust play a critical role in e-commerce transactions. Web sites project the trustworthiness of the business. In this regard, web design should take into account the user perceptions concerning security and trust in facilitating e-commerce. In this study, the authors focused on these two key aspects. Successful interaction with an e-commerce site depends on attracting and maintaining users trust of the web business. To assess the security and trust perception, the authors designed and surveyed more than 1000 college students, a major group supporting e-commerce. The authors developed three hypotheses concerning e-commerce web site design with respect to trust, security, and privacy. In this paper, the authors identify important user expectations with regard to web site design and test the hypotheses. As E-commerce is global, this analysis includes results from other countries besides the U.S.

Large information systems often span various functional areas of an organization and are used by different groups across several levels of the organization. When fulfillment of requirements in an information system is deficient for a functional area or an organizational unit, lower levels of acceptance among certain user groups may occur. This article explores the relationship between user acceptance of an information system and the degree of information requirements fulfillment for various user groups.

The mission statement is recognized as a vital component to achieving long-term success for organizations. What is the appropriate process for developing the mission statement? The bottom-up mission process is described and advocated for the growing number of professional service organizations comprised of opinionated and highly trained individuals. A case study based on an educational organization is detailed and a flowchart is developed. Guidelines for a bottom-up mission process for professional service organizations are developed for those organizations attempting to create their own bottom-up mission.
