A new press law for Greece

It is three years now since democracy was restored in Greece and with it freedom of the press. The Karamanlis government has abolished the colonels restrictive press legislation and promised a comprehensive new law. But despite a draft having been ready for nearly two years the bill has still not been presented in Parliament. Robert McDonald who is preparing a study of the Greek press under the colonels and after for the Writers and Scholars Educational Trust has acquired a copy of the draft law and in this article presents a summary, together with the background to the delay in its presentation.
